Servus fellow EGEAns!
You want to dive into the life of an real EGEAn? Then the Newbie Weekend is a great event to start from! For three days, we offer you many great activities to do and surely a great time! 😉
Five entities (Vienna, Brno, Bratislava, Graz and Tartu) have come together to bring you the best event to brighten bleak November days. With exciting presentations from already experienced EGEAns, traditional evening activities, trainings, work-shops and excursions you get the taste of what EGEA is all about.
Everyone is welcome, of course all Newbies as well as already experienced EGEAns!
Accomodation
The Newbie Weekend Austria takes place in Tauchen am Wechsel, a cozy little village in the Austrian Alps, with the federal states border of Lower Austria & Styria going straight through it! The accomodation where we staying is called The Blue Whale Education Center, a former Gasthaus (“Inn” in English) which got turned into a seminar house, run by the non-profit association called Generation Europa.
Arrival to the Event
Train
This is how you can get to the accomodation the easiest, because the nearest train station is only a 5min walk away! If you come from Vienna, you just have to take a train to Wiener Neustadt, there are trains very frequently, up to every 5-10min. In Wiener Neustadt, you just need to take the REX92 and get out at the station “Tauchen-Schaueregg”. From there, you just walk ~5min to the accomodation, it’s a bit up to the main street and then down the street to the small river, you surely can’t miss it!
You can also look up at the schedule website of the ÖBB (Austrian Railway) or the ÖBB Scotty app how to get there, just use “Tauchen-Schaueregg Bahnst” as your destination!
Car
If you get there by car, just use this address: Tauchen 125, 7421 Mönichkirchen
It’s an 1h drive from Vienna or Graz, 2h from Bratislava or Maribor, and 3h from Ljubljana or Brno 😉
Bus
Similar to plane, best would be to get to Vienna, take a train to Wiener Neustadt and from there take the REX92 to the accomodation!
Plane
If you are coming from very far away, and there’s no other choice than to fly, then don’t worry! Best would be to fly to Vienna International Airport, take a train from the Airport to Wiener Neustadt (there are some direct trains from there, depending on what time you arrive) and from there take the REX92 to the station “Tauchen-Schaueregg”!
Program
Beside being together for a weekend, we also planned many different activities for you!
- A Newbie Area, where we introduce you to EGEA
- Welcome Games to get to know each other
- Themed evening, where one is for sure inspired by the traditions of EGEA
- Two excursions, one is a hike around the beautiful Alps, the other one is still in the planning, but surely will be something less physically challenging as the hike 😉 (you will get more info!)
- A bigger presentation about EGEA and
- some small trainings and scientific lectures, which also is part of the EGEA experience! 🙂

Your Questions Answered
Q: How do I know if this is something for me?
A: If you like meeting people and/or viewing geography from different stances and/or like travelling, then this is definitely something for you! Every EGEA experience is different, some people like certain aspects more than others and that’s totally okay, because an EGEA event (like this one) has a lot of aspects to offer!
Q: My English is not that good, will I be able to fit in?
A: The key to learning a language is practicing, and most EGEAns don’t have English as a mother tongue, so everybody will make an effort to understand you and be patient. Besides, we’re sure your English is better than you think 😉
Q: I have some information I need the orgateam to know, how do I tell them?
A: Some time after you register for the event, we will sent a participant form for more information about you (eg. allergies, if you want to sleep in a same-gender room, …) so you can let us know there.
