Program

The organizers reserve the right to make minor changes to the program. Finalized program will be sent to participants before the event.

Location

Järvselja is located in Southern Estonia – our country’s oldest forest protection zone, known as the Primeval Forest. Protected since 1924, it has been left entirely to nature, with no human interference for almost a century.

Walking through these woods, you will come across Kuningamänd (King’s Pine), a tree more than 380 years old. The evergreen spruces soar more than 40 meters high, being some of the tallest trees in Estonia. It’s a peaceful, awe-inspiring place that invites you to slow down, reflect, think deeply, and encounter a renewed sense of possibility.

Järvselja also has an Arboretum, where a wide variety of forest plants, including coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, and perennials, are grown. It’s a beautiful place to explore the plant collections independently and enjoy peaceful walks. A diverse choice of plants are also available for sale.

accomodation

Accommodation is at Sihtasutus Järvselja Õppe- ja Katsemetskond Guesthouse in middle of the serene Estonian forest. It’s part of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, where student practicums and scientific research are regularly happening. In the accommodation there are different rooms that can fit 2-6 people.

The guesthouse has two toilets and two showers, a drying room for clothes, and two refrigerators. It also includes a kitchen with an electric stove and a conference room for up to 30 people.

How to get there

The event will start registration at 16:00 (4PM) on Thursday, 25th of September, followed by the opening ceremony at 17:00 (5PM), so make sure you’re on time for that!

Easiest way to get to Järvselja is through Tartu bus station using the line that terminates in Mehikoorma. The time schedule and information on the lines can be found on the Tpilet website, where you can set the departure stop (for example) as Tartu Coach Station and the destination stop to Järvselja. The stop is directly in front of our accommodation, so from there you’d only need to walk approximately 150m, so chances to get lost are slim.

Who feels more adventurous, can also look at the options through Põlva or Räpina, but they take more time and the chances of someone from the orga team being there to help are slimmer.

If you are travelling through Tallinn, you can get to Tartu either via train or bus. Information about train schedules and lines can be found from Elron website, and information on the bus times from Tpilet website. We recommend you to buy those tickets ahead of time, as Tallinn-Tartu  is a busy route and especially bus tickets can be sold out, furthermore the tickets are usually cheaper when buying them online.

If you are travelling through Riga, you can get to Tartu similarly, via train or bus. There are Lux Express or Flixbus buses, stopping in the coach station and airport (tickets from Tpilet, Lux Express or Flixbus websites). When coming via train you would need to change trains in Valga/Valka. The tickets to Riga-Valga can be purchased through If you are travelling through Riga, you can get to Tartu similarly, via train or bus. The tickets to Riga-Valga can be purchased through Pasazieru vilciens website and the tickets from Valga-Tartu from Elron website.

You can read more about how to get to Tartu via train starting already in Lithuania here.

If you are coming with a car, we assume you have heard about and know how to use Google Maps or Waze 😉

– If you want to come via bus and choose Lux Express, buy the tickets from their website, that way you will avoid extra service fee.
– When you’re travelling via plane to Tallinn Airport:
1) the bus to Tartu stops at the airport as well, so no need to go to the coach station (but you should set your departure station as Tallinn Airport then);
2) the closest train station is Ülemiste which is about 15-20 minute walk away.
– Buying tickets ahead of time can save you money!
– No need to print out the tickets, just show the QR code from your phone.
