The Green Frontier: A Ride along the River

19 June from 12:00 to 22 June from 14:00 Europe/Berlin

About the Event

Following the spirit of adventure that defines EGEA, we are excited to introduce our next unforgettable journey: The Green Frontier: A Ride along the River. This four-day cycling expedition will take participants along the Polish-German border, tracing the scenic paths of the Oder and Neisse rivers.

Throughout the journey, we will visit historical sites, charming cross-border towns, and natural wonders. From crossing historic bridges to riding through picturesque riverside trails, every turn of the road will reveal something new.

We hope to learn something interesting about the history of Lusatia and Silesia during this trip. We plan to visit three museums. During breaks from biking and sightseeing, we will sit in the June sunshine looking at the languidly flowing river.

So, get ready to pedal through time, cross borders, and embrace the beauty of the Lusatia and Silesia regions! 🚴‍♂️🌿

We will travel between 30 and 60 km per day.

What do you need to take?

-This is a bicycle tour so of course you need a bicycle. We don’t know exactly what conditions to expect on the spot, but from a preliminary inspection it looks like we’ll be traveling on segregated bike paths and roads with relatively low traffic. It’s worthwhile, however, that you take a bicycle that is designed for more difficult than urban conditions. A gravel or mountain bike would be best. If you have doubts about whether your bike can handle it, email us.

-During the tour we will cross the internal border of the European Union several times. You need a document that entitles you to stay in Germany as well as in Poland. In the case of EU citizens, this is an ID card. Germany has recently introduced random border controls, but we do not anticipate that this will be a problem for us.

-In the accommodation “Camp Keune” (2. night)  we will not have beds available. For this one night, you need to take a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat with you.

-The tour will be taking place in June. Take into account that it may rain! When packing, take rainproof clothes with you.
(And something against mosquitoes)

How many of us will be there?

We currently anticipate that the tour will include 10 people, including two people organizing the event.

What are we going to eat?

Good question. We assume improvisation. We will stock up individually before and during the trip. This will be an ideal opportunity to test German and Polish bread culture in practice!

What are the characteristics of our accommodation?

The first night will be held in a guesthouse – 3 rooms at our disposal. The second will be held in a “barn” with sanitary facilities (kitchen and bathroom). The third night will be held in a hotel in the city – 3 rooms at our disposal (unfortunately, we were not able to find more interesting options in the area that would be free at that time). Please take into account that there may be double beds in these places. In all the places mentioned you will be able to leave your bicycles safely.
