Geography Awareness Week 2025
Dear Entities,
The week of November 17th-23rd is Geography Awareness Week (GAW). We look forward to your contributions to GAW 2025 by organizing one or more events!
What is the GAW?
Geography Awareness Week (GAW) is an initiative dedicated to raising awareness about Geography.
Who can participate?
Your local group can organise anything you are interested in, and you can also include other local associations, NGOs, sponsors, partners, your university…
We will not be alone in this: EGEA (European Geography Association for students and young geographers), AFNEG (the association of local student geography associations across France), and GeoDACH (the association of German-speaking geography students) are all working together to make this GAW a fantastic experience for everyone!
What to organise?
Events to celebrate and present geography. For example, lectures, excursions, geoquizes, mapathons, city games, environmental events, GIS workshops (Wednesday, 19th is the GIS day!!)… Get creative and innovative!
As in previous years, EGEA, GeoDACH, and AFNEG want to reward your involvement in GAW and will award prizes in 5 categories.
To register an event, you have to do two things:
- Fill out the form (it will be emailed to you on the last day of the GAW).
- Post a picture or video of your event on social media with #EUGAW2025 and tag @afneg_geo, @egea_europe, and @geo.dach. If you post Stories, save them as highlights so we can view them longer.
In the survey, for each event, you can select one or two categories in which you think your event fits best. The four specific prize categories are:
- Best cooperation with external partners (not from the University!),
- Most scientific event,
- Most original event (be creative!)
- Best interdisciplinary idea
In addition, all entrants will automatically participate in the “best overall concept” category.
You can register multiple events, so feel free to organise more activities throughout the week.
The winners will be announced at the End of November and will receive their prizes at the next congress.
EGEA, AFNEG, and GeoDACH will also organise some online events throughout the week, so stay tuned for those.
