SUMMARY:Wissenschaft und Wein
DESCRIPTION:We are planning a day trip to the beautiful Ahrtal\, a hilly wine region to the south of Bonn. First\, our volunteer students will hold lectures to the themes of social meeting places in the area\, the remembrance culture of the flood in 2021 and disaster management implemented in the aftermath. Then we will explore an important cultural element of the Ahrtal: wine!We will hike through the valley of the Ahrtal discussing the lectures to gain some professional insights\, but also not forgetting our special cultural aspect. \n\n\n\nWe will meet on Sunday\, June 8\, 2025 (exact times will follow) either at Bonn Central Station or directly in Ahrweiler. Sleeping places in Bonn for our external entities will be organised internally.

SUMMARY:The Green Frontier: A Ride along the River
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\n\n\nFollowing the spirit of adventure that defines EGEA\, we are excited to introduce our next unforgettable journey: The Green Frontier: A Ride along the River. This four-day cycling expedition will take participants along the Polish-German border\, tracing the scenic paths of the Oder and Neisse rivers. \n\n\n\nThroughout the journey\, we will visit historical sites\, charming cross-border towns\, and natural wonders. From crossing historic bridges to riding through picturesque riverside trails\, every turn of the road will reveal something new. \n\n\n\nWe hope to learn something interesting about the history of Lusatia and Silesia during this trip. We plan to visit three museums. During breaks from biking and sightseeing\, we will sit in the June sunshine looking at the languidly flowing river. \n\n\n\nSo\, get ready to pedal through time\, cross borders\, and embrace the beauty of the Lusatia and Silesia regions! 🚴‍♂️🌿 \n\n\n\nAttractions\n\n\n\nGörlitz & Zgorzelec \n\n\n\n\nHistoric old town\n\n\n\nSilesian museum in Gorlitz\n\n\n\n\nBad Muskau & Mużaków \n\n\n\n\nMuskau Park\n\n\n\nMuskau palace\n\n\n\n\nMuskau Arch \n\n\n\nGerman-Polish UNESCO Global Geopark \n\n\n\nForst \n\n\n\n\nWatertower\n\n\n\nRose garden\n\n\n\nSankt Nikolai Church\n\n\n\nFactory ruins\n\n\n\n\nGuben & Gubin \n\n\n\n\nCity and Industry Museum Guben\n\n\n\n\nEisenhüttenstadt \n\n\n\n\nMuseum Utopia and Everyday Life\n\n\n\nUrban planning of a model socialist city\n\n\n\n\nFrankfurt (Oder) & Słubice \n\n\n\nAdditionally: \n\n\n\n\nEasternmost point of Germany\n\n\n\nCountless beautiful views of the Oder and Neisse rivers\n\n\n\nLots of lakes\n\n\n\nBeautiful forests\n\n\n\nFamous Rakotz Bridge and Kromlauer Park\n\n\n\nLots of small charming towns like Rothenburg and Przewóz\n\n\n\nLots of places with a past – an old brickyard\, power plant ruins and more\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat do you need to know?\n\n\n\nPossible route: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStart: Görlitz Central station \n\n\n\nFinish: Frankfurt (Oder) Central station \n\n\n\n\nNight at Pension – Zum alten Gasthaus Hänsel (Podroscher Str. 8\, 02957 Krauschwitz\, Germany)\n\n\n\nNight at Camp Keune (Am Sandberg 6\, 03149 Forst (Lausitz)\, Germany)\n\n\n\nNight at LAT Hotel & Apartmenthaus Berlin GmbH (Beeskower Str. 114\, 15890 Eisenhüttenstadt\, Germany)\n\n\n\n\nA map with marked accommodations and some of the attractions can be found at this link:  \n\n\n\nhttps://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1g4ZYgZEFsWKklEL2mQqzPvpIhADX7V4&usp=sharing \n\n\n\nWe will travel between 30 and 60 km per day. \n\n\n\nWhat do you need to take? \n\n\n\n-This is a bicycle tour so of course you need a bicycle. We don’t know exactly what conditions to expect on the spot\, but from a preliminary inspection it looks like we’ll be traveling on segregated bike paths and roads with relatively low traffic. It’s worthwhile\, however\, that you take a bicycle that is designed for more difficult than urban conditions. A gravel or mountain bike would be best. If you have doubts about whether your bike can handle it\, email us.  \n\n\n\n-During the tour we will cross the internal border of the European Union several times. You need a document that entitles you to stay in Germany as well as in Poland. In the case of EU citizens\, this is an ID card. Germany has recently introduced random border controls\, but we do not anticipate that this will be a problem for us. \n\n\n\n-In the accommodation “Camp Keune” (2. night)  we will not have beds available. For this one night\, you need to take a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat with you. \n\n\n\n-The tour will be taking place in June. Take into account that it may rain! When packing\, take rainproof clothes with you.(And something against mosquitoes)  \n\n\n\nHow many of us will be there? \n\n\n\nWe currently anticipate that the tour will include 10 people\, including two people organizing the event. \n\n\n\nWhat are we going to eat? \n\n\n\nGood question. We assume improvisation. We will stock up individually before and during the trip. This will be an ideal opportunity to test German and Polish bread culture in practice! \n\n\n\nWhat are the characteristics of our accommodation? \n\n\n\nThe first night will be held in a guesthouse – 3 rooms at our disposal. The second will be held in a “barn” with sanitary facilities (kitchen and bathroom). The third night will be held in a hotel in the city – 3 rooms at our disposal (unfortunately\, we were not able to find more interesting options in the area that would be free at that time). Please take into account that there may be double beds in these places. In all the places mentioned you will be able to leave your bicycles safely. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nHow the Fee is calculated: \n\n\n\n67€ Accommodations \n\n\n\n14€ Museums \n\n\n\n8€ Buffer if something goes wrong \n\n\n\n*Price might change (cheaper) \n\n\n\n**The price will not include food \n\n\n\n*** The buffer will be paid back after the event. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nPlease fill out the following form and sign up via the RSVP button for a successful registration. Incomplete registrations are invalid! \n\n\n\nThe registration will end on 20.04.2025 at 23:59 \n\n\n\nif you have any question\, please message us via mail: katowice@egea.eu \n\n\n\nif you miss this deadline\, please message us via mail: katowice@egea.eu \n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdlWcUhw0AZA2g856vBmK9q_f70uK_qW0tHURBMvrBJC6yUBA/viewform

SUMMARY:Wine & Shine Vol. 3: Camping Edition
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\nOrganised by EGEA Mainz. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, write us an e-mail (mainz@egea.eu) or on Instagram. \n\n\n\nMail\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\nWhat to expect\n\n\n\nAfter a one-year break\, we’re excited to announce: Wine & Shine is back! For its third edition\, we’re bringing you the “Camping Edition.” So\, grab your camping gear and hiking shoes and join us for a long weekend near the French border in the Palatinate Forest\, Germany’s largest continuous forest area. \n\n\n\nGot no plans at the end of June or need a break from university life? Come celebrate the start of summer with us! We’ll be camping together\, spending evenings around the campfire\, and hiking through the stunning Buntsandstein rock formations of the Palatinate Forest. \n\n\n\nThis year’s edition of Wine & Shine embraces a Roman theme – because not only the city of our entity\, Mainz\, was historically strongly influenced by the Romans. And of course\, we also want to stay true to our event’s name by getting to know the viticulture of the nearby Palatinate wine region with you. \n\n\n\nStay tuned\, we’re looking forward to seeing you! \n\n\n\nThe campsite and the surroundings\n\n\n\nPhotos: sv-lemberg.de \n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to get there\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrain/Bus\nWe recommend traveling by train. Use the Deutsche Bahn website / app to find connections and book tickets. Take the train to “Pirmasens Hbf”. \n\n\n\nFrom there\, there are bus connections to Lemberg\, which runs at least hourly\, e.g. line 250 (Get off at “Ortsmitte\, Lemberg”) or 256 (Get off at “Kindergarten\, Lemberg”). You can also use the Deutsche Bahn app to check the bus connections and buy tickets (Just not together with the train on one ticket. You must buy the bus ticket separately) \n\n\n\nOnce you arrive\, it’s less than a 1 km walk to the campsite. \n\n\n\nIf you need any further help\, please do not hesitate to contact us. \n\n\n\n\nCar/Carpooling\nTry to drive together with others. We offer a carpooling table so that you can find or offer rides. \n\n\n\nIf you need any further help\, please do not hesitate to contact us. \n\n\n\n\nBike\nYou come from further away? Use long-distance routes such as EuroVelo to get to the general region. \n\n\n\nIf you are in the region and want to continue to Pirmasens and Lemberg\, I recommend OpenStreetMap-based maps (such as WaymarkedTrails) and routing websites (such as cycle.travel or bikerouter.de) \n\n\n\nOtherwise\, you can find a map (in German) with regional cycle routes here (external link; PDF). \n\n\n\nIf you need any further help\, please do not hesitate to contact us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsors\n\n\n\nVolksbank Darmstadt Mainz\n\n\n\nWe would like to thank all sponsors for their contribution to making the event possible. \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nTo register for the event\, use the RSVP button below. Registration will open on 17.03.2025 14:00 CET until 13.04.2025 23:59 CEST\, there will be about 30 participant spots. Registration does not mean participation. If you get a spot\, further details will follow. \n\n\n\nRegistration is currently closed. The first participant emails have been sent out – check your email inbox! \n\n\n\n\nThis year’s Wine & Shine will take place as a “Camping Edition”. You will receive a packing list and will also be given the possibilty to share tents with other people\, but you must be aware of this: To be able to participate\, you need bring items like an own tent (which you can of course share with other people)\, sleeping mat and sleeping bag.

SUMMARY:Baltic weekend'25: Swamp edition
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are excited to announce the return of the legendary Baltic Weekend in Lithuania! After last year’s twist with the Baltic Weekend in Latvia\, we are back with an even bigger surprise this year! \n\n\n\nFollowing the huge success of our swamp-related activities at NBRC 2024 (*cough cough* extreme hike and Shrek evening)\, we have decided to embrace this concept once again. This year\, we are once again including swamp hiking in our activities. \n\n\n\nOver the four days (!)\, we will have a swamp hike\, cultural activities\, and other events associated with Baltic Weekend. Our accommodation is located in the Molėtai municipality\, just 100 km from Vilnius. Molėtai is famous for its lakes\, forests\, and other beautiful elements of the natural landscape. \n\n\n\nThe event that you’ve all been waiting for is taking place at a homestead called Pas Juzi (55.3807927\, 25.3223197 ) — a charming countryside retreat surrounded by vast forests and open meadows. The property offers 26 sleeping places\, so you’d better grab your tickets quickly! It also features a large outdoor terrace with a fireplace\, a traditional wood-fired sauna\, and an outdoor hot tub\, all providing comfort and relaxation in a natural setting. With spacious indoor areas and plenty of outdoor space\, we are going to be hosting an unforgettable weekend full of connection\, good vibes\, and moments to remember. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHomestead “Pas Juzi”\, Bajorai\, Molėtai

SUMMARY:Karstic weekend 2025
DESCRIPTION:Come join us on an unforgettable journey through the wonders of Slovak Karst National Park! Together\, we’ll discover spectacular caves and karstic formations recognized by UNESCO\, walk the eerie remains of a WWII-era railway tunnel\, and uncover the rich mining legacy of the Gemer region once one of the Hungarian Kingdom’s wealthiest areas. More details coming soon! \n\n\n\nThe registration is open from 25th April till 31st May. Capacity of the event is 40 people\, so we highly recommend you to register as soon as possible 🙂 \n\n\n\nRegistration form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdCVhmABfJftTXaRxF_O_VIz_6Ma-2GKS5OVrsEfcocO77FxQ/viewform?usp=sharing \n\n\n\nAccomodation: https://www.megaubytovanie.sk/penzion-adriana \n\n\n\nPrice: 90 € \n\n\n\nIf there will be any changs to the programme\, we are going to inform you immediately. We are also going to make an alternative programme for bad weather. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHOW TO GET TO ROŽŇAVA? \n\n\n\nWe have prepared Excel for the easiest course of your journey\, where you will find detailed connections from individual destinations that can be helpful to you. Have a safe journey and see you in the Slovak Karst! \n\n\n\nRožňava is located in the edge of Slovakia\, so getting here can be quite tricky. But don’t worry\, we have a couple of tips on how to handle your journey as comfortable as possible! If you are traveling from Bratislava you can use direct buses (which early in the morning at 5:30 and 6:30). The bus will bring you to Rožňava and you have a good time! If your journey is heading from another corner of our beautiful globe\, then your trip to kw’25 will be a little adventurous! The main transport hub will be the second largest city of Slovakia and the metropolis of the East – Košice! From Košice you will already be transported either by train or bus to Rožňava (transport connections go roughly in hourly intervals). If you are traveling from Kraków\, you just need to get up in the morning and use the bus to Poprad and change to the train to Košice. Morning birds in Ostrava can use the morning train with a transfer in Žilina. Also\, passengers from Vienna can use the morning bus at 5:30. Visitors from Budapest can sleep a little longer – the train goes to Košice every 2 hours!). If you are planning to start your journey in Prague\, then we recommend taking a night train and comfortably drop off in Košice the next morning. If your journey starts in a completely different destination\, then we recommend going to go a day earlier and sleep in a city you have on your way (ideally Košice). The easiest way will be those who prefer a passenger car for their transport. In this case\, you will have an adventurous journey on Slovak motorways (and some sightseeing rides in the villages as well!). \n\n\n\nThe opening ceremony will be held in KC Kláštor which is located on the main square in Rožňava just 500 meters from the main bus station\, but 3\,7 km from the train station (if you travel by train\, don´t worry\, we can pick you up). \n\n\n\nOur event is co-organised and finacially suppoorted by the Faculty of Science of the Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. Head of the Physical Geography Department in Geography Institute of Geography and General Secretary of the European Speleological Federation \, Dr. Alena Gessert\, is going to be present at our event.

SUMMARY:Hessian Weekend Vol. 3
DESCRIPTION:Introduction \n\n\n\nAfter the successful first two Hessian Weekends in 2020 and last year\, as well as the Bendelux Weekend in 2022 –We’ll invite you once more to the beautiful Edersee! If you don’t know anything about this lake and Hessia:Hessia is one of the 16 federal states of Germany and located in the center of the country. The Edersee is the second biggest reservoir\, and in the North of the state\, which is one of the most remote places in Germany. It is part of the Kellerwald National Park\, so there is a lot of nature and forests to explore! So join us to learn more about our distinct Hessian culture\, nature and food and our favorite drink: Apple Wine! \n\n\n\nThe event will take place on August 7th until August 10th at the Edersee Sports and Study Center of the Philipps-Universität Marburg. Since we are only 20 meters away from a lake you should definitely pack your swimming trunks and sunglasses! \n\n\n\nOrganisers\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to get to the Location \n\n\n\nBasically you have two options to arrive. Either you come by car to the above address of the Sport- und Studienheim Edersee of the Philipps-Universität Marburg. There will be enough parking spaces at the accommodation\, but we recommend you to do some carpooling (there will be an excel for this). The second possibility is to travel by train to the train station “Vöhl Herzhausen“. Be careful! It could be that you have to press a stop button on the train otherwise it might happen it won’t stop. From the train station you can have a nice hike to the accommodation (50min next to the lake) or order a “Bus-Taxi (AST)” \n\n\n\nShuttle transports are only offered in emergencies on the day of arrival. Waiting 30min for the bus is not an emergency ;). \n\n\n\nOf course you can also arrive by bike at the accommodation if you want to be very Eco friendly. \n\n\n\nIf you have further questions you can ask us in the Whatsapp group or write a mail to marburg@egea.eu \n\n\n\nParticipaNt Fee\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\nRegistration is over now! We will soon inform erveryone if they got a spot. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nPictures of the Accommodation \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nExcursions \n\n\n\n\n\nGuided Tour through the “Kellerwald-Edersee” National Park (10-12km\, 5-6h) \n\n\n\nFor the excursion – last year’s hike around the lake was very popular and we’ll do it again! The tour starts at the car park “Strieder-Eiche” and walk from the Asel Bay to the “Katzenberg” (Cat Mountain). Where you will have a magnificent view of the Edersee. From there the path will get more narrow and harder to climb while we will continue your journey to the “Lindenberg”. The following path will be very overgrown\, and the “Edersee” only appears through the treetops just in a few places. Your last attraction point will be the “Hünselburg” with the remains of medieval ramparts.During the hike you will find a rare flora and a lot of different types of stones. At one point you will also see a landslide\, which will be avoided via a secured path. \n\n\n\nIf you’re looking for a more relaxing day\, there is a small amusement park nearby\, as well as the huge dame we’ll visit. \n\n\n\nAfter last years success of the Offenbach Night\, this year’s theme party will be called the “Frankfurt Night”\, pretty obvious\, right? Frankfurt is Hessian’s largest city and the financial capital of Germany. You can find the stock market\, as well as the European Central Bank. That means there are a lot of people in suits and dresses\, like proper High Society. But be careful: if you find yourself in Frankfurt\, stay away from the Central Station! \n\n\n\nMore pieces of information will come in the future. The plan might slightly change\, there could be different excursions or leisure activities – but we will keep you updated. \n\n\n\nLeisure Activities\n\n\n\nYoga \n\n\n\nDo you want to relax from the pressure of everyday life? Then our yoga leisure activity is the best way to help you. \n\n\n\nVolleyball / Soccer \n\n\n\nIf you want to play a match of beach volleyball or football\, register. Here you can not only do some sports but also prove your skills or improve them with the help of our leisure coaches. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nFree Time Activities\n\n\n\nStand UP Paddle \n\n\n\nHave you always wanted to paddle standing up? At the Hessian Weekend you have the opportunity to use our SUPs for free during the whole day. \n\n\n\nFloristic Scavenger Hunt \n\n\n\nOur alligator Arne is a huge fan of the traditional hessian green sauce\, but he doesn’t have all the ingredients for it. Can you help him and find all 7 ingredients at lake edersee? \n\n\n\nPacking list \n\n\n\nLunch boxWater bottleName tag keychainsuitable footwearswimweartowelscomforter covers/ sleeping bagsslippersWeatherproof clothingSunscreen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf you have further questions you can ask us in the Whatsapp group or write a mail to marburg@egea.eu

They bring people together\, celebrate shared experiences\, and place their host regions in global spotlight. Yet\, these grand celebrations often come with significant challenges. The immense investment in infrastructure\, resources\, and finances frequently contrasts with the long-term impact\, raising critical questions about sustainability and equity. From abandoned stadiums and altered cityscapes to environmental degradation and displaced communities\, the aftermath of large events can linger long after the applause fades. Do the promises of economic growth and urban development truly outweigh the costs? Our exploration dives deep into these pressing issues\, examining how major events reshape infrastructure\, influence local economies\, and impact the environment. Through an interdisciplinary lens – spanning human and physical geography\, remote sensing\, and GIS – we will uncover the ripple effects of large-scale gatherings on host cities and landscapes.By bringing together experts\, students\, and stakeholders from diverse fields\, we aim to develop innovative strategies for event planning and management – ones that ensure lasting benefits for host communities while minimizing negative impacts. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticipant fee\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFee to be paid (in %)AC 2025 fee (in EUR)Group A100210Group B80168Group C65136.5Group D50105Insights on how the Annual Congress’ fee has been calculated\, can be found in the official EGEA documents (APPENDIX C).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGroup A\n\n Austria \n\n\n\n\n Belgium \n\n\n\n Finland \n\n\n\n France \n\n\n\n Germany \n\n\n\n Italy \n\n\n\n Lithuania \n\n\n\n Malta \n\n\n\n Netherlands \n\n\n\n Norway \n\n\n\n Slovenia \n\n\n\n Spain \n\n\n\n Switzerland \n\n\n\n United Kingdom \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGroup B\n Croatia Czech Republic Estonia Hungary Poland Romania Russia Slovak Republic Türkiye \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGroup C\n Serbia \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGroup D\n Bosnia and Herzegovina Kosovo Ukraine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\n\nMore than Games: Urban change and the planning of Paris 2024Are you ready to explore the fascinating world of mega-events and urban transformation? This workshop will take you behind the scenes of one of the biggest sport events on the planet. Focusing on the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 as a case study\, it explores the impact of large-scale events on the structure and functioning of cities. You’ll discover how hosting the Olympics affects cities\, their environments\, economies and communities. Key themes include the transformation of the urban landscape\, processes of social inclusion and exclusion\, and the challenges of organizing sustainable and inclusive Games. The workshop takes an interdisciplinary approach\, aiming to offer a critical perspective on how global events shape contemporary urban life. Whether you’re passionate about sports\, urban planning or just curious how cities evolve\, this workshop will inspire and engage you.Workshop leader: Remigiusz Kałczuga & Mateusz Rosiak \n\n\n\nHelping your community: Volunteerism in- and outside of EGEAThe mere fact that you are reading this right now probably means that doing the bare minimum is not enough for you. And guess what: You are not the only one! You are the culmination of a long history of volunteerism. But let us be honest for a moment: EGEA is not the only way people get involved in their local communities. Some people help neighbors with repairs\, some help animals in shelters\, some provide after-school tutoring with children\, others join a local community organization. What is the right thing for you? And which forms of volunteering does your community offer? After little dive into the theories of volunteerism\, we will work together on visualising a way you can get further involved. You are a courageous person. Do not let comfort or the state of the world overwhelm you. Do something about it.Workshop leader: Matthew Becker & Nataliia Filimonchuk \n\n\n\nGoal! But at what cost? Mega-events social impact\, place-making and the afterlife of infrastructureHave you ever wondered what is going on with mega-events logos and how it’s connected to local identity? Everyone remeber Shakiras Waka Waka during 2010 World cup but is anyone know the others mega events anthems? This workshop explores how mega-events like Olympic Games or World Cup affects the image\, infrastructure and foremost identity of host cities. We would like to make an introduction to the place-branding topic. Through games\, lectures and group work\, participants will dive into real-world case studies – with a special focus on EURO 2008 and EURO 2025 in Switzerland – and then make an evaluation of them. Together\, we will follow branding slogans\, logotypes\, abandoned or well-developed stadiums.Workshop leader: Kinga Mateja & Mateusz Szkopiarek \n\n\n\nEnergy for the event – Energy Supply for Mega-Events through GIS\, Ecology\, and NegotiationHave you ever wondered how our energy systems can be decarbonized? In this workshop\, Moritz and Johannes will guide you through the planning of a net-zero energy supply for a mega-event. You’ll carry out a biotope type mapping and use it—alongside legal and technical criteria—as a basis for siting wind\, solar\, or storage systems. Together\, we’ll explore not only the physical and spatial conditions but also the social and technological conflicts that arise in renewable energy planning—offering a realistic and interdisciplinary insight into a key professional field for geographers. GIS experience is helpful but not required.Workshop leader: Johannes Czernik & Moritz Helmecke \n\n\n\nFestival Futures: Imagining Circular Mega-EventsMega-events are beautiful moments of celebration\, but they often come with a heavy ecological footprint. From short-lived infrastructure to massive overconsumption\, events are in need of rethinking. In this workshop\, we invite you to imagine what a truly circular mega-event could look like. These concepts can range from practical solutions to utopian visions\, as the aim is to challenge assumptions and inspire new ideas. Whether you are new to festivals or an experienced festivalgoer looking to deepen your knowledge\, you’re welcome to explore this topic with us!Workshop leader: Heini Huovinen & Melissa Klimenko \n\n\n\nSpying out megastructuresSpying Out Megastructures is a workshop all about giant structures built for massive events – think stadiums\, concert arenas\, or Olympic parks. We’ll take a deep dive into these megastructures using satellite data and remote sensing tools to see how they impact the natural environment around them. Our main tool will be Google Earth Engine (GEE) – a powerful platform for satellite image analysis that is built on JavaScript. Don’t worry if you’re new to all this – the workshop is designed for people with zero experience in remote sensing or GEE. We’ll guide you step-by-step\, making sure everything is easy to follow and fun to learn.Workshop leader: Pola Mickiewicz & Zofia Sułkowska \n\n\n\nLet’s Make a Celebration – and Map What It MeansWhat better way to explore Geographies of Celebration than… by throwing our own celebration? In this workshop\, we’ll do exactly that – by building a playful geoquiz web app as our main “goal.” You’ll learn how to use simple GIS and web mapping tools to create an interactive quiz that can inform\, surprise\, or make people laugh\, while also making them think about the social\, environmental\, and logistical sides of mega-events.The geoquiz is our baseline project – it’s easy\, fun\, and a great way to share geography with anyone. But if you have a burning idea for another type of event-related GIS web app – maybe a CO₂ calculator for concert travel\, a crowdsourced map of local bars\, or an interactive food-sourcing planner – we’ll help you bring that to life instead. No GIS experience? No problem. We’ll start from scratch\, sprinkle in datasets about travel modes\, food miles\, and event locations\, and by the end you’ll have a working app to share. It’s part mapping\, part creativity – and 100% a celebration of your own making for the final presentation.Workshop leader: Stefan Graf (Esri)\, Johann Neugebauer (Esri) & Marcel Felix (EGEA) \n\n\n\nThe (economic) cycle of waterHave you ever wondered how river flow impacts our everyday lives and the local economy? If your answer is YES\, then we invite you to join us on a journey through the fascinating high-mountain rivers of Switzerland. Together\, we’ll dive into the topic of water management and explore the key properties of water that play a crucial role in this field. To make the most of the Congress setting\, we will conduct fieldwork on the Grosse Melchaa River\, collecting data for hands-on analysis. This data will be used during GIS sessions and in discussions about the opportunities and challenges that water presents to local communities. All the activities we’ll engage in are simple\, fun\, and fully guided—we’ll support you every step of the way.Workshop leader: Igor Dmowski & Jan Jurkiewicz \n\n\n\nExplosive Entertainment: how fireworks affect humans\, animals and the planet?Big celebrations involving fireworks might be exciting for us\, but they can be a real shock for animals and the environment. In this workshop\, we’ll explore the impact on animals\, our planet and society of these events and why it matters. Through real-life examples\, group discussions\, scientific input and your creative expression\, we’ll dig into what could be done differently to reduce the damage while still enjoying the moment. To do this\, we will work towards holding a debate that also highlights the reasons why fireworks are still widely used today by finding stakeholders interested in continuing the tradition and understanding their viewpoint in addition to the many convincing counterarguments.Workshop leader: Klaudia Kurpios & Jacek Gładysiak \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainings\n\n\n\n\nThriving under pressureStress isn’t your enemy. This training will help you turn stress into strength by understanding your personal stress response and learning how to use it to your advantage. We’ll focus on both managing your own stress and communicating effectively under pressure. Minergie is a label for ecological construction of buildings in Switzerland. Learn more how an energy-efficient stadium is built and managed on a tour in the morning. In the afternoon we will head to the center of Lucerne and learn more about the history of this jewel in the pre-alps.\n\n\n\nLake Rotsee (Hydrology) This fieldtrip will also take you to Lucerne. After a short walk (30min) which will take you by the lake Lucerne shore and the lion-monument you will arrive at Rotsee\, which is a smaller lake bordering the city of Lucerne. This lake is famous for hosting international rowing competition events. In an excursion organised together with the department of surface waters of the state of Lucerne you will learn more about it’s historical development and how the intensive use by orts and nature preservation work together. Thereby we will also look into how its fauna and flora will develop in the future. Even though the Rotsee is a relative small lake\, we can draw parallels to other lakes in Switzerland and discuss the bigger picture. So water you waiting for? Dive in!On the way back from Rotsee to the center of Lucerne we will also pass through a part of the old city of Lucerne before mountain the Bus back to Melchtal.\n\n\n\nTourism & Sport in Engelberg This excursion will take you to the alpine village of Engelberg. Here you will learn in the morning more about how talents are prepared for an athletic career in winter sports at the swiss sport high school. Thereby you will gain insights into physical and psychological challenges and training methods which prepare them for the slopes. After lunch we will visit the natural ski-jumping slope in Engelberg where a guide gives us insights into this extraordinary sport. After gaining new heights we will play a game through Engelberg to see the town before taking the bus back to the Sportcamp. The physical activity here is climbing the stairs of the ski-jump infrastructure and walking through Engelberg.\n\n\n\nHard hike: Glacial landforms of Switzerland The hard-hike will take you from Melchsee-Frutt via 4 lakes and one mountain pass to Engelberg where you will mount the bus back to the sport camp. During this hike you will pass a large number of different glacial landforms and will cross a glacial valley. From the second to the fourth lake you will also be able to spot the remains of the glaciers in the distance. The lakes on the way also give you a nice chance to cool down. The hike (only walking time) will take about five hours and about an elevation change of 700m up and down again. It is important to have good hiking gear and be in good condition for this hike!\n\n\n\nBiodiversity in the Melchtal valley Together with an expert you will explore the rich biodiversity found in the area on a hike. The Mechtal is for instance an area where a vulture re-wilding project of Switzerland is happening. Maybe you are even able to spot one of the majestic birds yourself? Thereby you will cross different climate and vegetation zones where different species of plants grow which in turn supports a changing fauna. The Melchsee-Frutt is also home to a large alpine bog which is rich in biodiversity. Interestingly all bogs and swamps in Switzerland are protected by federal law. This however is in conflict with the usage of the alps for tourism and farming. So which better place to learn about how humans influence biodiversity?\n\n\n\nEasy Hike: Hydropower on Melchsee-Frutt This excursion will take you around the two lakes on Melchsee-Frutt\, the Melchsee and the Tannalpsee. Both of these lakes are to some extent artificial\, meaning there were smaller lakes before but they were extended to produce hydropower. Thereby hydropower usage on the Melchsee-Frutt is very old. Already 100 years ago the first hydropower station was built in a natural karstic cave. The production of electricity helped then to boost tourism on Melchsee-Frutt and create jobs in an area which used to be dependent on farming. What better way to connect to the harnessed power of nature than with a dip in one of the two lakes? The hike will take about 3h (only walking time) and cross an elevation of 250m up and down\, but don’t worry\, there are no steep inclines.\n\n\n\nAlpine Soils under Pressure This excursion will look into how the soils change with altitudes and how different land-uses influence the soils. Thereby we will have the chance to discuss how winter sports influence the soil as the pressure exerted on the soil and different amounts of water supplied where the ski slopes influence the physical properties of the soil and the vegetation which grows on the soil.We will also cross a karstic area during our excursion where we can look into the special properties of soil developing in this geologically interesting area. So if you need a chance to connect back to the ground during the AC\, this is your chance! We will walk for about 3h (only walking) and cross an elevation of about 1000m down and 100m. There is no steep incline though and the paths are in good condition (half of it is gravel road).\n\n\n\nRemote Sensing of Alpine Forest Local experts from the University of Zurich will give you insights on methods of forest remote sensing in an alpine setting. After an introduction to the fundamentals of passive-optical remote sensing\, the newly learned will be put to practice in the field. With string and a drone we will apply remote sensing methods right there in the Melchtal. Afterwards the data will be analysed and challenges as well as possibilities of remote sensing in the alpine forests will be evaluated. This excursion will largely happen near the sportcamp in the morning but in the afternoon an easy hike around the local forests is included to not miss out on the beautiful landscape! Thereby you will learn more about the local forestry and forest ecosystem services in the region but also in Switzerland in general. Thereby the challenge posed to the forest by climate change will be discussed and how remote sensing can help monitor the forests health and help forestry services deal with the challenges of the future. So don’t miss this chance on a true remote-sensing excursion!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nregion Melchtal\n\n\n\nOur congress will take place in the Melchtal which is situated in the geographic centre of Switzerland ca. 80 km south of Zurich. The valley shaped by the river Melchaa is surrounded by beautiful mountain formations and nearby lakes. The Melchtal is famous for being the supposed origin of Arnold von Melchtal\, one of the three legendary founders of Switzerland\, according to the country’s founding myth. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccommodation\n\n\n\nWith the Sportcamp Melchtal we found an ideal venue for our congress with a breathtaking mountain view. Located 890 m above sea level\, it offers everything we need: A spacious hall for GA sessions and evening events\, multiple workshop rooms\, and many outdoor possibilities. Whether you’re exploring nature trails\, unwinding in the fresh alpine air\, or getting active on the sport courts with volleyball or bouldering\, Sportcamp Melchtal combines relaxation with adventure\, making it an inspiring setting for every part of our programme. \n\n\n\n\nSportcamp Melchtal (Image – sportcamp.ch)Sportcamp Melchtal (Image – sportcamp.ch)Sportcamp Melchtal (Image – sportcamp.ch)Sportcamp Melchtal (Image – sportcamp.ch)Sportcamp Melchtal (Image – sportcamp.ch)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAround Melchtal\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdress of the accomodation : Fruttstrasse 36\, 6067 Melchtal\, Switzerland \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTravel guide\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe congress starts with the registration at 11 am on Monday\, 08th of September 2025\, followed by the opening ceremony at 2 pm. Make sure to arrive on time! After one week of great experiences it is time to say goodbye after breakfast on Saturday 13th of September 2025. We recommend using the same way back. \n\n\n\nNote that Switzerland has its own currency\, the Swiss franc CHF (1 EUR ~ 0.95 CHF)\, but you can usually pay by card. At the congress you can pay in Euro. \n\n\n\nPublic transportation in Switzerland is a convenient and reliable way of getting around\, which is why we recommend that you use it for your travels. Below you will find our suggestions for the various means of transport to and from the congress venue. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n By train (and bus) 🚅 By bus 🚌 By car 🚗 By plane ✈\n\n\n\nIf you are travelling by train to the AC2025 your destination is the village of Sarnen. There are several ways to reach Sarnen by train\, for example RE7 or IR15 from Bern or IR70 and IR75 from Zürich. If you take the train from Zürich or Bern you need to change in Luzern to PE or S5. You can search for connections in the SBB Mobile App or on the website of the Swiss Federal Railway company SBB. As Switzerland is part of the European Youth Pacts\, people up to the age of 26 receive discounts – for example\, a group ticket for four people for 80 CHF in total for a whole day. You can find the best international train connections on comparison portals such as Trainline. The fastest train connections can be found on the EuroCity website. There are also student discounts there. We recommend using the SBB Mobile App to stay updated on track changes etc. From Sarnen you have to take the Postal Busservice B 343 to Stöckalp and leave at the stop Melchtal\, Sportcamp to get to the accommodation. We will later provide a sheet with the departure times\, where you can sign up for and distribute to the various bus reservation we made for you. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe nearest Flixbus stop to Melchtal is Luzern\, but Zug and Zürich are also possible. From there you have connections to Milan\, France and Germany. You can also find cheap buses outside of Flixbus\, for example on apps like Trainline. Sometimes you can get some student discounts on different national and international student discount websites (E.g. Studentenrabatt in Germany). \n\n\n\nCheck the section by train (and bus) for further information on how to get to the accommodation after reaching the major cities in Switzerland. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou can also drive to Sportcamp Melchtal by car\, there are plenty of parking spaces. We recommend driving in groups and will later publish a carpooling sheet where you can find other EGEAns carpoolers. Important: To use Swiss highways\, you need a Vignette. They are only available for one year (01.01.2025 – 31.01.2026) and cost 40 CHF (44 EUR). You can buy them online or at service stations near the border. The accommodation is located in the Swiss Alps\, so it is the easiest way to get to Switzerland from the north\, e.g. via international roads from southern German cities such as Freiburg\, Stuttgart and Munich\, but also from France and Austria. If you have made it to Switzerland\, the direct way to AC2025 is via highway 2\, which connects Basel and Luzern. Coming from Zurich\, you can take highway 14 and highway 4 to enter onto highway 2. Please keep in mind the speed limit of 120 km/h. Speeding Tickets are very expensive. I mean it’s Switzerland\, what did you expect? If you drive pass Luzern\, take highway 8 Junction Lopper to Interlaken until you reach Sarnen. From Sarnen you can take the cantonal road to Melchtal. The speed limit for main roads/highways is 100 km/h\, for cantonal roads 80 km/h.There is a barrier from the ski area in front of the entrance to the sportcamp\, this should be open\, otherwise you can take a ticket and validate it (for free) at the accommodation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you want to fly to AC2025\, the nearest airports with suitable connections are Zurich (ZRH) or Basel-Mulhouse (the only airport with three codes: BSL in Switzerland\, MLH in France\, EAP in Germany). After arriving at the airport you can use the public transportation to Sarnen and to the accommodation. The cheapest airlines reaching Swiss airports are WizzAir and RyanAir. Use websites like Skyscanner and Google Flights to find the cheapest flights. \n\n\n\n🌳To protect the environment\, please check the other travel options before you book a flight\, or consider traveling only one way by plane and the other by alternative modes of transport. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration & Open Calls\n\n\n\nWe offer 200 spots for participants\, incl. fixed places for official positions. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDo you need financial support to attend the congress?Consider applying for the support fund below. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n➡️ Log in with your EGEA account to access the information below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSponsors\n\n\n\nWe would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support\, without which we would not be able to realize this event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEsri is the world’s leading provider of Geographic Information System (GIS) software and geospatial technologies. SUMMARY:CroWeek 2025 (BALKANIJADA 14.0)
DESCRIPTION:Balkanijada (CroWeek) is a congress organized by the entities in the former Yugoslavia. EGEA Zagreb organizes this year’s Balkanijada on the topic “Rural tourism as a factor of spatial development”. \n\n\n\nWHERE?\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nWHO CAN COME TO THIS CONGRESS?\n\n\n\nThe aim of this event is to bring together entities from the former Yugoslavia\, but everyone is welcome to participate. \n\n\n\nACCOMMODATION\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHow to get there?\n\n\n\nThe event starts with the registration at 2 pm on Thursday\, 25th of September 2025\, make sure you arrive in time for Games without borders at 4 pm! After few days ofWe recommend using the same way back \n\n\n\nBelow you will find our suggestions for the various means of transport to and from the event venue. \n\n\n\n\nCar\n\n\n\n\nAround the accommodation there will be plenty of space for parking. Keep in mind that it is more convenient if several passengers share one car. Also\, unlike some other countries\, Croatian highways do not use a vignette system. Instead\, you pay a toll fee\, which is calculated based on the distance traveled between toll stations and the vehicle category. \n\n\n\n\nBus\n\n\n\n\nTraveling by bus is also an option. First\, you need to get to Čakovec\, the best connection is from Zagreb (tickets are available via the FlixBus application or on the official website. You can also take a FlixBus to Čakovec from several other European cities. Once you get to Čakovec\, take the local bus to Vučetinec (see the timetable). From there\, it’s just a short walk to the accommodation. \n\n\n\n\nTrain\n\n\n\n\nThere is a train station in Čakovec\, but keep in mind that there is no direct line from Zagreb\, which is still the best connection to the Međimurje region. This means you will need to change trains in another city (or cities)\, depending on the connection and schedule you choose. Once you arrive in Čakovec\, take the local bus to Vučetinec (see the timetable). \n\n\n\n\nPlane\n\n\n\n\nIf you are arriving by plane\, the nearest airport is in Zagreb. From there\, you will need to take a bus or train to Čakovec\, and then a local bus to Vučetinec. Keep in mind that the airport is located outside the city\, so you first need to take either city bus line 290 (which stops at Kvaternikov trg) or the Pleso Prijevoz shuttle (which goes directly to the main bus station) to reach the city center. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nORGA TEAM\n\n\n\n\nBarbara Kurtov\n\n\n\nOgnjen Ožegović\n\n\n\nPaula Prološćić\n\n\n\nFran Halavuk\n\n\n\nKatja Milašin\n\n\n\nPetar Ule\n\n\n\nDunja Galinec\n\n\n\nJosipa Marinović\n\n\n\n\nPARTICIPATION FEE\n\n\n\nParticipants: 90 EUR \n\n\n\nPresenters: 75 EUR \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nNumber of participants: 27 + 8 (Orga Team)

SUMMARY:Exchange Leuven-Joensuu
DESCRIPTION:We flew to Helsinki and spent the night there before travelling to Joensuu the next day. In the evening\, we joined a local party to kick off the exchange. On Saturday\, we visited the local geography faculty and explored Joensuu during a city walk. The next day\, we went to Koli National Park and enjoyed the beautiful view from Koli Mountain. In the evening\, we baked traditional Finnish pastries and experienced a real Finnish sauna: including cooling off in the river! \n\n\n\nOn Monday\, we headed back to Helsinki and explored the city a bit. Since our Helsinki–Charleroi flight was cancelled\, we took a night bus to Riga instead. That unexpected detour gave us the chance to spend a day in Latvia\, visiting Cēsis\, Sigulda\, and Riga. Thank you Joensuu!!
