SUMMARY:Western REGIONAL Congress 2024
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLatest News\n\n\n\nThe Open Call for Workshopleaders and Trainers has started and is open until the 31th of December. For those of you who already have an idea for a workshop or training please see us on the 13th of December for a Q&A session on Zoom (see your entity emails for a link or contact us via wrc2024@egea.eu).We are looking forward to your applications!Workshop application formTrainer application form \n\n\n\nTopic\n\n\n\nSouthern Groningen and Drenthe have a history of underground energy resources\, heavily influencing the landscape until this day. To reach a sustainable future a transition to green energy is  required. \n\n\n\nThe Groningen natural gas field has been a topic of numerous discussions: the gas led to significant wealth but also resulted in a crisis of gas-related earthquakes damaging homes and buildings in the region. The impact on local communities is ongoing\, with a substantial restoration project spanning the entire region\, permanently altering the aesthetics of historic villages. The management of the gas-related earthquakes turned into a national political crisis\, eroding civilian faith in governmental competence. \n\n\n\nBesides the damage\, this crisis fueled the debate on the energy transition and the role that the province of Groningen is willing to play. Groningen has the potential to farm green energy like wind and solar energy. The geographical factors make this region a promising green energy area. On the other hand the province might not wish to be an area of energy farming again. \n\n\n\nWhile gas extraction in Groningen ended in October 2023\, the Wadden Sea gas fields and off-shore energy production by windmills are being considered as potential alternatives. Off-shore energy production has gained renewed relevance due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. However\, the effects of gas mining and off-shore wind farms are debated due to potential ecosystem impacts on this unique UNESCO Wadden Sea area. Off-shore farming also comes with new challenges like energy transportation and energy storing. \n\n\n\nSouthern Drenthe is home to the largest oil field in Western Europe. It marks the establishment of the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) in the oil village of Schoonebeek. For a long time\, it was seen as a great opportunity for locals\, and NAM contributed to numerous facilities for the local community. However\, due to the Groningen gas earthquakes\, there is now growing suspicion against NAM\, resulting in a strained relationship between the company and the villagers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have some Ideas planned for great excursions. But those are still only ideas. Stay tuned for updates! \n\n\n\nRound trip; earthquakes in GroningenRound trip; oil\, energy and geologyCity and energy; Groningen city tour and harbour visitWalk; Nature\, landscape and tourismEasy bike; Archeology and glacial landscapeHard bike; Countryside of North Netherlands\n\nGas extraction from the Groningen Sandstone has caused induced earthquakes over the past decades. This resulted in extensive damage to buildings in a large part of the province. We are going to see the Groningen landscape and visit the affected region. \n\n\n\n\n\nLocated in the south of Drenthe and across the border in Germany\, we will visit some relatively unknown oil extractions as well as a geology museum. Potentially\, we will also visit a hydrogen initiative. \n\n\n\n\n\nGroningen is the largest city and significant (historic) centre of the Groningen-Drenthe region. Join us on a city tour! Additionally\, we will visit the industrial harbour and power plant.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDrenthe is a very green province with some sandy soil and a bit more elevation (25m\, 10-20m prominence) than the bordering provinces. This creates some natural regions. In this excursion we take a look at the forest\, creeks and tourisms in the national park directly next to our accommodation. \n\n\n\n\n\nDrenthe is known for the rocks and boulders that came from Norway during the last glaciation. These were used to construct megalithic graves (dolmen) during the late stone age. We will visit these monuments and explore some of the historic landscapes and their histories. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe wouldn’t be in the Netherlands without riding a bike! We will make a day trip through the forest\, past a lake and across some countryside. We will probably also see some of these prehistoric graves as well. The whole route is flat and will be a casual ride but with quite some distance! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\nWe prepared a few potential workshops for you but if you think we are missing an important aspect of our topic please let us know and apply for your own workshop! \n\n\n\n\n\nShaking Grounds: Gasmining and Earthquakes in GroningenMoving Soils: Understanding Soil Subsidence in the NetherlandsEmbodied Experiences of Disasters in Slow-Motion \n\nGas mining was practiced for 60 years in Groningen. With it came economic prosperity and environmental damage. We want to explore how it came to this situation. How are gas fields created and why of all places in Groningen? What is the economic value of gas mining and what outcomes should you expect? What will change now that the gas mining stopped? \n\n\n\nWe want to give our participants the possibility to work on one of those research questions and in the end create a little info-slide of it\, which can be posted on social media\, as well as a lot of stickers! (An EGEA Bochum speciality) \n\n\n\nWith the situation being that the workshop groups will be quite big\, our participants will work in smaller groups so they can get to know each other even better! \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us on a journey beneath the surface as we delve into the world of soil subsidence in the Netherlands. This workshop offers the opportunity to explore the causes and consequences of sinking ground levels from a physical geographical perspective. Afterwards\, we will have a closer look at how to deal with and even prevent this process from a human geographical view.  \n\n\n\nParticipants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between natural processes and human activities that led to the gradual sinking of the Dutch landscape.  \n\n\n\nUncover the mysteries below ground and become part of the workshop to ensure a resilient and sustainable future for the Netherlands! \n\n\n\n\n\nThe interactive and creative workshop is about the reflection of the intricate entanglement of individual experiences\, societal structures\, and the impact of disaster in the context of our capitalist system. We will focus on the profound effects of extractivism on individuals and communities using the feminist concept of embodiment and a participatory counter mapping approach. In our workshop\, we will take the past\, present and future consequences of the gas extraction in Groningen as example to discuss how ‘disaster in slow motion’ shape the embodiment and imagination of extractivism and protests. The creative engagement in counter mapping provides a powerful tool to not only analyse but also actively engage your own embodied experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*Might be changed \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLOCATION AND ACCOMODATION\n\n\n\nThe name “Drenthe” is believed to mean “three lands\,” and once you discover its beauty\, you’ll know why. \n\n\n\nDrenthe is a province known for its vast forests and serene rivers. It’s one of the country’s least crowded regions\, making it a haven for nature lovers. \n\n\n\nFor our accomodation „De Kwartjesberg“ we secured a maximum capacity of 112 people meaning there’s plenty of space for everyone. \n\n\n\nDuring the breaks get ready for some serious fun! Cause we have beach volleyball court\, basketball court\, and ping-pong table – perfect for leisure activities. \n\n\n\nPlus\, with our unique forest location\, you’ll have the privacy you deserve\, surrounded by the beauty of nature. No distractions\, just pure focus on making the most of your WRC experience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n🚆 All Aboard the Train: Start your adventure by hopping on a train to the beautiful city of Groningen. Enjoy scenic views along the way\, and get ready to dive into the WRC experience! \n\n\n\n🚗 Hit the Road: If you prefer the freedom of the open road\, set your GPS to Gasselterstraat 9\, 9533PC Drouwen. It’s a picturesque drive that will lead you to our event. Remember\, the journey can be as exciting as the destination! \n\n\n\n🚌 Bus It Up: Hop on a bus to Groningen if you’re looking for a convenient and cost-effective option. Relax\, chat with fellow travelers\, and let us handle the rest. 🚌 \n\n\n\n✈️ By Plane: If you’re coming from further afield\, the major airports in Amsterdam and Eindhoven are your gateways to WRC 2024. Just hop on a connecting flight\, and you’ll be in Drouwen in no time! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSUPPORT FUND\n\n\n\nPlease remember that EGEAns can apply for the Support Fund to help finance attending this event while registration for this event remains open. SUMMARY:Winter carpathians
DESCRIPTION:Greetings\, EGEAns!We invite you to spend the weekend with us. Let’s discover ukrainian cultural landscapes\, exchange thoughts and simply have a rest! When? March 1-3Where? Kolochava Village\, Zakarpattia region\, Ukraine. It might sounds scary to travel to Ukraine during fullscale war\, but we assure you\, we’ll do our best to make this trip safe. Here few reasons why you should try:There is a big distance from the frontline. The place of our adventures is more than 800 km far from it. That’s why Zakarpattia region is one of the safest in Ukraine. Even air alarm sounds not so often comparing to the other regions. Also\, Kolochava is far from military objects and big cities\, which is important too. \n\n\n\nDuring the entire war\, the Zakarpattia region was never attackedThe trip will start in Lviv on suburban train station. Our train leaves at 9 a.m (Kyiv time)\, so you’ll need to arrive till this time. You can try to get to Lviv with the help of such international transportations as FlixBus\, KLR Bus and others. We will return to Lviv on Sunday at 14:25 (2:25 p.m.) and then you can walk around to enjoy this old city. \n\n\n\nYou will see: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAn authentic wooden church\, made without a single nail\, in the baroque style\, the church to this day makes more than one passerby tourist drool with admiration.\n\n\n\nBrown bear rehabilitation center. Animals that have suffered cruel treatment or have been kept in captivity without suitable conditions are allowed here for protection. Work is also underway to reproduce the natural population (there are about 300 individuals in Ukraine) and to deepen research on Ukraine’s largest predator.\n\n\n\nPicturesque waterfall. Shypit waterfall is one of the seven natural wonders of Ukraine.\n\n\n\nUnforgettable experience and much more.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJust fill out the Google Form and get ready for the trip: https://forms.gle/DgCtZCSeJG6oXmQj7

SUMMARY:Training New Trainers 2024
DESCRIPTION:OverviewProgramAccommodation & travel info\n\nWhen:14-20 February Where: Brussels\, BelgiumPlaces: 20Application fee: 170 euros – consider applying for the support fund if the registration fee is a hindrance to you  \n\n\n\n🚀 Are you ready to embark on a transformative journey to master the art of soft-skill training? Look no further than TNT – Training New Trainers. \n\n\n\n🔑 TNT\, or Training New Trainers\, is your golden ticket to becoming an exceptional soft-skill trainer. Participants will acquire essential competencies to provide engaging learning experiences and design qualitative training sessions\, while navigating an interculturally diverse audience. Imagine being mentored by not one\, not two\, but five seasoned trainers who will guide you every step of the way. \n\n\n\nCheck out the program section to learn more about how the TNT will look! \n\n\n\n\nWhat is a trainer?\nThe role of a trainer is to facilitate learning for other people. Non-formal education (i.e. learning that doesn’t happen in a classroom\, but in a workshop or training)\, revolves around creating a positive\, brain-friendly learning experience. \n\n\n\nThrough soft-skill training\, trainers develop the skill sets of individuals and groups so that they can act more effectively and efficiently. In EGEA trainers are crucial to support and develop the members and leaders of our organisation\, from event- and project planning to team management and leadership. \n\n\n\nWithin a training session\, a  trainer can take on various roles: teacher\, leader\, specialist\, coach\, facilitator\, philosopher\, diplomat\, listening ear\, or any combination of the above. \n\n\n\n\nWhat will you learn at TNT?\nA Train-The-Trainer event aims to skill people in designing and delivering learning experiences that put the learner central. \n\n\n\nIn short\, you will learn what it means to be a trainer\, how people learn\, how to design a learning experience (aka training) that fits the needs of the participants\, and how to facilitate and deliver this learning experience in an engaging and brain-friendly way. Moreover\, we will kickstart your own trainers’ journey – because being a trainer isn’t achieved in 1 week\, it’s a lifetime skill and perspective you can always develop further. \n\n\n\nSome specific topics we will dive into are: \n\n\n\n\nMaster the art of connective communication\n\n\n\nHarness the power of constructive feedback\n\n\n\nUnderstand the intricate dynamics of group interactions\n\n\n\nDesign engaging (online) training programs\n\n\n\nExplore innovative training methods\n\n\n\nDive into science-based training techniques\n\n\n\nGrasp adult learning principles\, from learning styles to personality types\n\n\n\nSkillfully manage training activities\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to register for TNT?\nTrain-the-trainer is not like any other event in EGEA. Because the whole week is dedicated to learning\, we want to make sure everyone who joins is also motivated for this amazing week. Therefore\, registration goes through this form. Don’t get scared by the amount of questions\, just be yourself! Selection of participants will be based on motivation and interest in delivering trainings within EGEA. \n\n\n\nYou can register from 10 to 20th December. If there are still places left\, there will be a 2nd round of applications following in January. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTake a look at the draft-program below to know the shape of the Train-the-trainer event. \n\n\n\nWhat can you expect from the training sessions? \n\n\n\nYou will learn everything you need to know about the art of training design and training delivery\, as well as learning processes and so much more. Besides that\, you will also deliver your own trainings at the start and end of the week. Why? Because only practice makes perfect! \n\n\n\nExpect a week full of engaging learning\, connecting with EGEAns and IAAS participants alike\, and exploring the world of learning together. \n\n\n\nExcursion? \n\n\n\nYes! you see that right! We will have an excursion in the middle of the week to empty our minds a bit. More details about where we’ll go will follow soon\, but trust that Brussels has many beautiful places to your hearts content! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe event is taking place in Brussels\, Belgium. 📍 Accommodation Address:JES Sleep Inn\, Werkhuizenstraat 3\, 1080 Sint-Jans-Molenbeek\, Brussels\, Belgium \n\n\n\nTransportation Options: \n\n\n\n\nIf you are coming by car\, please let us know\, as there are no parking spaces at the accommodation.\n\n\n\nPlease note that Brussels is a low emission zone\, and only diesel cars with euronorm 5 and 6 and petrol cars with euronorm 2\, 3\, 4\, 5 and 6 are allowed inside. Non-Belgian cars also need to register beforehand via https://lez.brussels/mytax/en/registration.\n\n\n\n\n🚊 Train \n\n\n\n\nIf you are travelling by train\, you can either arrive in Brussels-North or Brussels-South/Midi by international train\, or Brussels-Central by Belgian train. \n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Brussels-North\, you can take bus 20 direction Hunderenveld to stop ‘Ribaucourt’\, and walk to the accommodation from there.
