Agriculture has traditionally been a core element of Podhale’s economy and culture\, yet its practices have continuously raised questions of sustainability. Now it’s time to brace it for the heavily changing environment surrounding it. \n\n\n\nMoreover\, all of us are aware of the dynamically altering conditions resulting from worldwide human impact and climate change. With extreme occurences and catastrophes that have been and are now happening in Europe\, we want to provide insight and give room for diving further into these issues in a place filled with nature\, deeply sensitive to unstable circumstances. \n\n\n\nWe also cannot forget the ever-so-important EGEA Regional Restructuring. In its spirit\, we offer space to talk about the future of our Association. What does it look like with the new division just around the corner? What new challenges will we be faced with? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\n\n1. The symbiosis between the geographical area and the species of plants and animals with survival basics\n\n\n\nled by: Bristena Misca and Nicolas Radu from Timișoara\n\n\n\n\nIf you ever wondered while hiking or cycling how those beautiful flowers survived in those conditions or how it happened that we have our own endemic species in the Tatra Mountains – then you need to check out this workshop! Here during 4 sessions you will: \n\n\n\n\nlearn the similarities and differences of distinct parts of the Tatras and the Polish Carpathians in terms of plants and animals appearing there\n\n\n\nfind out how to deal with dangerous and unpredictable situations that can occur on the path\n\n\n\nget to know basic survival skills\, needed until help arrives\n\n\n\n\nAfter this workshop you’ll receive the essentials about survival on mountain trails. If you’re very keen on mountain activities\, you can’t miss out on this opportunity to expand your life knowledge around mountains! \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNicolas Radu\n\n\n\nBristena Misca\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIssues: The harmony of flora and fauna in different parts of Polish Carpathian Mountains and how to keep it alive \n\n\n\n\n2. ‘Til the landslide brought me down\n\n\n\n\nled by: Tonya Banasik and Natalia Hinc from Kraków\n\n\n\n\nEvery mountainous region with steep slopes has the same problem — land mass movement. In Podhale\, one of its drivers is the Carpathian flysch. But what exactly is it? \n\n\n\nWhat are the main hazards hiding behind the landslides and other types of mass movements? Where are the most endangered sites located? How can we protect ourselves from the possible danger? If any of these questions light a spark within you\, we are looking forward to seeing you join this workshop. \n\n\n\nIssues: Land mass movement in the Podhale region \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTonya Banasik \n\n\n\nNatalia Hinc\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n3. The value of the Polish Highlands folklore for tourism and their possible impact on local culture\n\n\n\n\nled by: Martyna Kazlauskaitė and Laurynas Cicėnas from Vilnius\n\n\n\n\nDo you want to live your best Polish Highlander mountain fantasy? Get yourself a wide-brimmed Highlander hat (as featured in the AC 2024 logo) and embark on a captivating journey into the heart of the Polish Highlands folklore. \n\n\n\nDiscover the treasures embedded in the mountain culture and understand how our vibrant traditions contribute to the allure of tourist destinations. Examine the dual impact of tourism on local culture — how it can both enrich and challenge the preservation of traditions. \n\n\n\nIssues: Highlander folklore’s impact on local tourism and culture \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMartyna Kazlauskaitė and Laurynas Cicėnas in amazing traditional highlander outfits \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n4. The future of political involvement of young adults – case study of Kościelisko municipality and Podhale region\n\n\n\nled by: Stanisław Konieczny from Warsaw and Ugur Eren Daştan from Izmir\n\n\n\n\n\nEvery community that wants to grow and provide its members with good quality services needs good leadership and involved individuals. It is more difficult to find promising young local leaders when a lot of young people migrate to bigger cities or to better developed regions. Additionally\, nowadays young adults have many options for their professional career. \n\n\n\nWhy should they get involved in local issues and politics? What are the factors that convince young adults to choose this path? And what can local authorities and communities do to convince the younger generation to be more active? During the proposed workshop we want to find answers to these questions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUgur Eren Daştan\n\n\n\nStanisław Konieczny\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIssues: Defining the weight of young adults in creating civil society nowadays \n\n\n\n\n5. Branching out: Aerial insights into sustainable forestry\n\n\n\nled by: Wiebke Breternitz and Lennart Greiner from Jena\n\n\n\n\nForestry is increasingly challenged by the need to balance ecological sustainability with economic and social demands. Let’s explore together how remote sensing technologies like LiDAR and multispectral imaging can reveal the hidden dynamics of forests – from how trees communicate to detecting ecological changes. You’ll get hands-on experience with these tools\, learning to bridge the gap between diverse stakeholder interests through informed forest management strategies. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re new to remote sensing or looking to deepen your knowledge\, you’ll get to know practical applications in forestry that enhance your skills and understanding in a field crucial for making informed decisions that benefit both our forests and communities. \n\n\n\n\n\nWiebke Breternitz and Lennart Greiner\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIssues: The importance of forests around us & reasonable management of them. How remote sensing can help understand it more. \n\n\n\n\n6. The past and the future of settlements in the Polish Western Carpathians\n\n\n\nled by: Theresa Steinert from Osnabrück and Lukas Jensen from Hannover\n\n\n\n\n\nAre you interested in spatial planning? Do you enjoy working with aerial photographs\, archival maps and LiDAR? If so\, fly with us into exploring the changes in the development of the Polish Western Carpathians. \n\n\n\nYou will discover the characteristics of settlements in the Polish mountains (also some of the architecture) and learn about the factors that have influenced and continue to shape this type of development. \n\n\n\nIssues: Changes in the settlement patterns in the Polish Western Carpathians over the years and now \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheresa Steinert\n\n\n\nLukas Jensen\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7. The impact of mass tourism and how Tatra NP can minimise its impact on the environment\n\n\n\n\nled by: Klara Grošanić and Korana Komar Zagreb\n\n\n\n\nAre you curious about the delicate balance between preserving the natural wonders of Are you curious about the delicate balance between preserving the natural wonders of the Tatra National Park (TPN) and the influx of mass tourism? Research the concept of honeypots and explore how these attractive destinations within the park draw crowds of visitors. \n\n\n\n\nTogether we will look into the challenges posed by mass tourism\, examining its effects on the delicate ecosystems of Podhale and its local communities. \n\n\n\nIssues: The impact of mass tourism in the Tatra National Park \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKlara Grošanić\n\n\n\nKorana Komar\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n8. How to adapt the infrastructure and lifestyle to the harsh environment of the Tatra Mountains\n\n\n\n\nled by: Matúš Béber and Vít Šrámek from Prague\n\n\n\n\nDo you enjoy exploring challenging environmental conditions? Do the possibilities of arranging the infrastructure by local communities light a spark within you? If you answered “YES” to either of the above\, this workshop is for you! We will focus on challenges related to — among others — flash floods and halny wind (local foehn wind)\, which impose special adaptation of the infrastructure and architecture in the Tatra Mountains. \n\n\n\nThe potential outcome of our work will be an outline of the conditions an ideal home or building must meet to withstand the environmental constraints of the region. \n\n\n\nIssues: The adaptation of infrastructure to the environment of the Tatra Mountains \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVít Šrámek\n\n\n\nMatúš Béber\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainings\n\n\n\n\n\nA. Public Speaking\n\n\n\n\nled by: Marie Brožová from Brno\n\n\n\n\n\nPublic speaking is important for everyone. You might need it while presenting your research\, pitching ideas to a group of people\, or anywhere else. We will try different techniques on how to get more comfortable with public speaking\, how to overcome fear\, and make it interesting for the audience. \n\n\n\nPublic speaking is also related to other things like your confidence\, clear communication\, or critical thinking\, so it can positively benefit your skills. It does not matter if you are a little scared of public speaking\, it is for everyone. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMarie Brožová\n\n\n\n\n\n\nB. Leadership and Group Dynamics\n\n\n\n\nled by: Laurent Christen from Zürich\n\n\n\n\nIIn this training you will use brain-friendly\, informal learning techniques to tackle the questions: what is an effective leader\, and how do they guide their group towards success? How do group dynamics play out in groups of different sizes and purposes\, and how can you influence these dynamics positively? You can expect a very interactive training with group work\, discussions\, and fun energizers in a relaxed environment. \n\n\n\nAt the end of the training you will have learned a lot about facilitation: the skill of making things easier for your peers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaurent Christen\n\n\n\n\n\n\nC. First Aid Training\n\n\n\n\nled by: Arne Koscharre from Marburg\n\n\n\n\nNothing is more important than our health and safety\, so this training will be suitable for any person who would like to know the ins and outs of first aid and how to behave in a life-threatening or hazardous situation. From the training itself you will learn the basics of first aid\, which can save lives. \n\n\n\nAnyone can try their hand and learn how to do it properly with the help of a certified paramedic assistant from Germany (Sanitätshelfer)\, who will be conducting this training for EGEAns for the second time. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nArne Koscharre\n\n\n\n\n\n\nD. (Don’t) Be Dramatic – Improv Class!\n\n\n\nled by: Bartosz Pietrak from Warsaw\n\n\n\n\n\nImprov class is all about letting go of almost all the limits. This training will consist of various improv games\, which anybody can try themselves. \n\n\n\nIt’s a very fun time\, bonding social ties\, integrating\, but most importantly a valuable activity. As for the leader of this training (semi-professional actor for many years)\, he has taken part (rather successfully) in many improv games and knows plenty of them. \n\n\n\nYou will (probably) leave this class more encouraged\, self-confident and creative. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBartosz Pietrak \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial guest\n\n\n\n\n\nAssociate Professor Grzegorz Micek\, PhDSource: Jagiellonian University in Kraków\n\n\n\n\n\nA very special introduction to the theme of Change for the Future and the region of Podhale as a whole will be delivered by our scientific guest\, Associate Professor Grzegorz Micek\, PhD. \n\n\n\nProfessor Micek works at the Department of Regional Development of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków\, where he is a widely popular lecturer among the students\, which includes the members of EGEA Kraków. His research interests include but are not limited to: local and regional development\, business location factors and the economics of peripheral cities and regions. \n\n\n\nDuring the Scientific Opening of the Annual Congress\, Professor Micek will deliver a thematic lecture titled What shapes the trajectories of mountainous areas? The case of the Polish Carpathians. Here is what he says about it: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring my forthcoming address\, I will be eager to identify the determinants of specific growth trajectories of mountainous areas using path dependence and formation constructs. In particular\, I would be happy to reveal the mysteries of the historical development of the Polish Carpathians and to provide more detailed studies of selected towns and rural areas. \nAssociate Professor Grzegorz Micek\, PhD.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProposed excursions\n\n\n\n⚠️🌍 Proposed excursions may differ in the final programme of the congress 🌏⚠️ \n\n\n\n\n#1 Into the Water: Czorsztyn Reservoir\n\n\n\n\nThe most distant of our trips will bring together people of different interests\, with the running theme being water. Here a group EGEAns will head north in the direction of Nowy Targ\, Podhale’s historical capital\, to find themselves nestled right between two national parks – Gorczański and Pieniński. Our destination will be Czorsztyn Reservoir\, one of the largest reservoirs in southern Poland. \n\n\n\nBefore you get there though\, you will get to see sights such as the scenic Bór na Czerwonem (a peatland that is both a nature reserve and a Natura 2000 protected area) and the volcanic hill of Wdżar (functioning partly as a ski resort). Having arrived at the reservoir\, you will first be delighted to go on a private tourist cruise\, allowing you to relax and admire beautiful views of the Orawsko-Nowotarska Basin\, including the castles of Niedzica and Czorsztyn. Once ashore\, you will take a walk across the Niedzica dam\, learning more about the many functions of the beautiful reservoir. The trip will conclude with a swimming session at a nearby beach – for those willing. \n\n\n\nRecommended for: participants of the #2 workshop\, participants of the #6 workshop\, water enthusiasts\, EGEAns with less experience in mountain hiking\, landscape tourists\, those wanting to go farther away from the Tatras \n\n\n\n\n\n\n#2 Winter Capital of Poland: Zakopane\n\n\n\n\nIf you ever considered visiting Poland in winter\, you must have heard of Zakopane. The city\, just east of our Kościelisko\, is nicknamed Poland’s winter capital for a reason. During this excursion (the only urban one\, may we add) two groups of EGEAns will see the many sides of Zakopane\, a city vibrant regardless of the season. \n\n\n\nThe first of the groups will follow a path in the footsteps of local culture\, starting with branches of the Tatra Museum: Chałupa Gąsieniców-Sobczaków and Willa “Koliba”\, where they will get acquainted with customs and traditions of the Polish Highlanders. They will then visit the moody Pęksowy Brzyzek cemetery\, Zakopane’s oldest and most recognizable cemetery\, where tombstones are pieces of art themselves. Their path will end at the headquarters of the Tatra Museum\, where they will get the chance to see the newly opened exhibition of local art titled “Meetings” (pol. “Spotkania”). \n\n\n\nThe second of the groups will study Podhale’s nature and sports legacy\, visiting first the modern Nature Education Centre of the Tatra National Park. They will there be entertained by an immersive 3D model of the Tatras and dioramas of local fauna and flora. Following the education centre\, they will then walk to the Central Sports Centre\, Poland’s epicentre of winter sports. There\, they will get the chance to take a chairlift up the top of the “Wielka Krokiew” ski jump\, Poland’s biggest\, and admire the views seen only by the top ski jumpers of Poland. \n\n\n\nBoth groups will then get to see the core area of the city\, which now serves multiple functions. They will experience both the traditional architecture of Podhale and the sharply contrasting new tourist facilities. Free time is expected on Krupówki\, Zakopane’s very heart and undeniably one of Poland’s most recognisable streets\, before taking the iconic funicular up the peak of Gubałówka (1126) for panoramic views of the city. \n\n\n\nRecommended for: participants of the #4 workshop\, participants of the #8 workshop\, urban freaks\, EGEAns with less experience in mountain hiking\, sports enthusiasts\, those in search of local souvenirs \n\n\n\n\n\n\n#3 Agrifuture: Kościeliska Valley (easy hike)\n\n\n\n\nIn comparison to the following hikes\, this one is much less demanding\, as it starts directly from our accommodation. Do not underestimate it though\, as we have never heard of anyone who would be disappointed after visiting the famous Kościeliska Valley. \n\n\n\nBefore entering the valley\, you will get to see the Tatra National Park’s Tatra Earth Archive\, a state-of-the art underground visitors centre focusing on geology and biogeography of the region. The hike itself will take place in the valley deriving its name from the village where our accommodation is located. The valley is one of the larger in the region and is known as a place where a lot of Polish Highlanders operate on local pastures\, hence the ties to Agrifuture. Participants taking part in this trip will get to not only enjoy the balance between nature and human activity\, but also see the cradle of the best oscypek cheese in the entirety of Podhale. Can you already taste it? \n\n\n\nRecommended for: participants of the #3 workshop\, EGEAns waiting for their first experience in mountain hiking\, agriculture enjoyers\, those who want to taste in local Tatra food\, i. e. oscypek \n\n\n\n\n\n\n#4 Mass tourism high above: Morskie Oko (medium hike)\n\n\n\n\nOne of the longer journeys will take us to one of the must-see points of the Tatra mountains. It is here that vast numbers of tourists from Poland and beyond walk up the classic road to marvel at the truly iconic\, blue miracle of nature. You guessed it\, you will get the chance to see the Morskie Oko\, Poland’s most known mountain lake. \n\n\n\nBefore reaching the final destination\, you will walk alongside the picturesque valley of Białka (Rybi Potok) river\, which is also the border between Poland and Slovakia. During the excursion itself you will: \n\n\n\n\nlearn the story about the Waterfalls of Mickiewicz\n\n\n\ntalk about the potential risk for the surrounding nature coming from the mass tourism near the Włosienica pasture and Morskie Oko lake\n\n\n\nadmire the views of the highest Polish mountain range\n\n\n\n\nWhile most of the road from the starting point of our hike named Palenica Białczańska is quite easily accessible (it is a paved road after all)\, the last 2 km to the Morskie Oko are much harder\, so please be prepared for possible slippery conditions! That is all we can say for now… \n\n\n\n\n\n\n#5 Into the Forest: Grzybowiec & Siklawica (medium-hard hike)\n\n\n\n\nCalling all forest lovers! During this medium hike you will be able to reconnect with nature and find inner peace\, which might come in handy after yet another of the crazy parties we have in store for you. \n\n\n\nThe hike will start directly from our accommodation\, where you will head south and enter the Tatra National Park. Moving along the Mała Łąka Valley and the Nad Reglami Path\, you will be able to hear the voices of the Podhale forests. Don’t you worry though\, as amazing viewpoints are also planned. You will reach the Grzybowiec peak (1417)\, from where an incredible view of the Tatras can be admired. On the way back you will get the chance to see the beautiful three-part Siklawica waterfall\, where many photos are bound to be taken. Following the Strążyska Valley and the Pod Reglami Path\, you will then be taken back to Dom Wczasowy Harnaś II\, with more fun activities awaiting. \n\n\n\nRecommended for: participants of the #1 workshop\, participants of the #5 workshop\, EGEAns with experience in mountain hiking\, hungover people \n\n\n\n\n\n\n#6 Glacial relief of the Tatras: Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy (hard hike)\n\n\n\n\nDoes neither of the previous excursions satisfy your need for a truly mountainous experience? Do you have greater background with mountain hiking? Do you not mind getting downright sweaty and gritty? If so\, join the utmost mountainous hike possible – the excursion to Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy!  \n\n\n\nSadly no glaciers are left in the Polish mountains now but many traces of their abundance in the past can be found. One of them is the titular Czarny Staw Gąsienicowy\, which is much different from Morskie Oko as it is far less exploited by tourists. \n\n\n\nGiven the conditions\, during this workshop you will: \n\n\n\n\ntake a longest hike possible…\n\n\n\n…which in return gives marvelous sights of Polish Tatras…\n\n\n\n…and the biggest of the Polish Tatras’ lakes.\n\n\n\n\nWe know you are already excited about it – come join us on the trail! \n\n\n\nRecommended for: EGEAns with greater experience in mountain hiking \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDay schedule\n\n\n\nBrought to you by our Day Programme Team \n\n\n\n⚠️🌍 Proposed programme may differ 🌏⚠️ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n📌 Location 📌\n\n\n\nRegion of Podhale\n\n\n\nPodhale is a picturesque and culturally rich region in southern Poland\, at the very base of the Tatra Mountains. We create spatial data based\, clear and intuitive maps and tools for everyone. Moreover\, we are the creator and owner of the OnGeo.pl portal and the Mapped Geoportal\, which together are the basis of knowledge about every parcel in Poland. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Terrain Report available at OnGeo.pl finds use in any situation when one wants to find the characteristics of a chosen parcel. Whether it be the buying or selling of an estate or establishing the investment potential of a location\, the Terrain Report is your tool to use. Here\, apart from precise measurements of the parcel\, calculating its physical properties and describing its surroundings\, you will also acquire important information about the changes in the parcel’s neighbourhood that are already underway\, be it due to the Local Development Plan (MPZP)\, planned routes\, issued building permits or planned investments in land development\, which have already been agreed upon by local governments. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe main asset of the Terrain Report is the speed with which the information is at your hand. Hundreds of discrete characteristics of the parcel are presented in the form of a clear and succinct document\, all generated under 5 minutes. Currently the Report has up to 100 pages of figures and descriptions revolving around the estate of your choosing. Generating such a report by hand would require from one to a few days of hard and tedious work. The information displayed in the report are highly specialised spatial analyses and data recombined from multiple sources\, with the premise of acquiring information that is the most useful investment-wise. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Mapped Geoportal on the other hand is a portal providing you with all the needed information about the space around us\, presented on customised maps. Thanks to the site you can generate the Satellite Image Report and the Archive Aerial Photos Report\, which both can be used to analyse land use change\, pinpoint the time of the occurrence of phenomena such as catastrophes (be it man-made or natural)\, monitor the changes in the landscape and plan agricultural activities or find law breaches in building activities. They can furthermore be used as an attachment to the report in building development or as a source of archival information about real estate. The Mapped Geoportal offers for instance an interesting report on the history of forestry in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship\, thanks to the use of aerial photos dating back to 1944. \n\n\n\n\n\nSource: OnGeo.pl (https://ongeo.pl/o-nas) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFaculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw\n\n\n\n#SponsorThe Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw\, as the first independent geographical faculty in Poland\, as a faculty of the Warsaw University\, always ranked among the top two best universities in the country\, as a geographical unit with great scientific and teaching potential\, should play a priority role in Polish geography\, raise their prestige at the University of Warsaw and be recognized internationally. \n\n\n\nSource: Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies (uw.edu.pl) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nConsultative Council for the Student Scientific Movement of the University of Warsaw\n\n\n\n#SponsorThe Consultative Council serves as a guiding force for organizations and scientific circles at the University of Warsaw. The park is headquartered in the town of Zakopane. The park\, which stretches over the parts of the Tatra Mountains belonging to Poland\, was established in 1955 as a direct response to the environmental hazards coming from the development of industry\, intensive grazing\, predatory forest practices and hunting. It covers over 211 km2\, placing it as one of Poland’s largest national parks. About 70% of the park’s area is covered by forests and dwarf pine thickets\, whereas the remaining 30% are alpine grasslands\, rocks and water. Over 149 km2 of its area is under strict protection\, including the entire floor of mountain pastures and crags\, the floor of dwarf pine forests\, and partly the floors of upper and lower montane forests. The iconic logo of TPN displays a Tatra chamois\, a living symbol of the Tatra Mountains. It was and still is the hero of many folk talks\, stories and songs. It is also the motif of numerous paintings and sculptures. Who knows\, maybe you will get to see it during the congress? \n\n\n\nSource: Tatra National Park (https://tpn.pl/ and https://tpn.pl/pobierz-plik/b4c9c5927541f782850f01c0c2130f3c/Folder+TPN.pdf) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJagiellonian University in Kraków\n\n\n\n#PatronageThe Jagiellonian University is the oldest higher education institution in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. SUMMARY:Newbie Weekend Belgium
DESCRIPTION:Introduction\n\n\n\nHello there! Do you want to get a taste of the wonderful EGEA life? Our Newbie Weekend in Watou\, in the Western part of Belgium\, is a great place to start! Here you can explore what typical EGEA activities have to offer\, such as: \n\n\n\n\nAn excursion – Nothing geographers like more than some good old field observations! In this case we’ll take you cycling through the fields along some old breweries.\n\n\n\nA workshop or training – Learning something to boost your science or soft skills in a fun way! The subject of our workshop still needs to be decided\, but we’re sure it will be interesting!\n\n\n\nA cultural fair – On this evening everybody brings some things to eat and drink from their home country\, and we explore the whole culinary experience of Europe in one room!\n\n\n\nA newbie area – Where we introduce you to each other and to the way EGEA works.\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nParticipation fee\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccomodation & surroundings\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe weekend takes place in Watou\, a cosy little village near the border with France. (So to the French: C’est bien et proche\, nous serions très contents de vous accueillir!) The region is known for World War 1\, cycling and its many delicious beers (wink wink). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo get there\, you can take the train to Poperinge\, where we can provide a shuttle service to bring you to the accomodation. You can also reach the accomodation by car and bicycle\, it is near the center of the village. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nprogram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis program is only approximately and will probably change a little. \n\n\n\nExcursions:\n\n\n\nWe will probably go on a cycling excursion along some traditional breweries\, visit them and/or visit some World War 1 monuments. (More info will follow) \n\n\n\n\n\nSign me up!\n\n\n\nRSVP until 19th of Octobre via this link: https://forms.gle/CZ4vdcZkTWpEUVkk8 \n\n\n\n\nYour questions answered\n\n\n\nQ: How do I know if this is something for me?A: If you like meeting people and/or viewing geography from different stances and/or like travelling\, then this is definitely something for you! Every EGEA experience is different\, some people like certain aspects more than others and that’s totally okay\, because an EGEA event (like this one) has a lot of aspects to offer! Q: My English is not that good\, will I be able to fit in?A: The key to learning a language is practicing\, and most EGEAns don’t have English as a mother tongue\, so everybody will make an effort to understand you and be patient. Besides\, we’re sure your English is better than you think 😉Q: I have some information I need the orgateam to know\, how do I tell them?A: Some time after you register for the event\, we will sent a participant form for more information about you (eg. allergies\, if you want to sleep in a same-gender room\, …) so you can let us know there. We will also make a whatsapp chat for everybody. Otherwise feel free to contact our entities on Instagram or e-mail\, we’re happy to help!

SUMMARY:Reality Check: a Journey through Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:Reality Check: A Journey Through Ukraine \n\n\n\nWe invite you to a unique journey that will reveal the reality of life in Ukraine beyond the headlines. This is not just a trip — it’s an opportunity to experience what it means to live through constant challenges. \n\n\n\nDuring the journey\, we will visit two cities — Lviv and Kyiv\, witness the aftermath of russian aggression\, see how volunteerism is developing\, and discover what drives Ukrainian youth today. \n\n\n\nThis journey will reshape your perception of Ukraine\, revealing its vivid contrasts: bravery\, resilience\, and the drive for freedom.  \n\n\n\n📆 November 5-9 \n\n\n\nMaximum number of participants: 15 \n\n\n\nJoin us in exploring Ukraine and experiencing its heart ❤️ \n\n\n\nPROGRAM \n\n\n\nDay 1: Lviv\, Story of the Past \n\n\n\nThe first day begins with an introduction to Lviv — a city rich in history. In addition to the most fascinating tourist spots\, we dive into places where history intertwines with present-day realities. You’ll visit sites of missile strikes\, a modular town housing internally displaced people who fled the war\, and together we’ll help weave camouflage nets for Ukrainian defenders. The day will conclude with an evening program in the city center. \n\n\n\nDay 2: Lviv\, Glimpse into the Future \n\n\n\nOn the second day\, you’ll get a glimpse into the future of a country rebuilding from destruction. A visit to the National Rehabilitation Center Unbroken will show how people are being helped back to life. You’ll also explore Urban Camp — this is a community center and housing for internally displaced families in Lviv. We’ll conclude with a reflection session over pizza\, followed by an evening program. Night transfer by train to Kyiv. \n\n\n\nDay 3: Kyiv\, The capital of steadfast \n\n\n\nIn the morning\, we will be greeted by the capital of Ukraine — Kyiv. Today\, we will have a city tour\, visit the revitalized space of Unit City\, and meet local residents whose homes were affected by missile strikes. After exploring cultural and historical points\, we’ll end the evening with a relaxed dinner and free time for reflection. \n\n\n\nDay 4: Bucha\, the scars of war \n\n\n\nToday we’ll travel to Bucha\, a town near Kyiv that endured russian occupation. There\, you’ll witness the scars of destruction and see how the town is rebuilding today. We’ll also take part in a volunteer initiative. The day will conclude with dinner and an evening program back in Kyiv\, offering a chance to relax and reflect. \n\n\n\nDay 5: Kyiv\, Hugs and Kisses \n\n\n\nOur final day in Kyiv\, a walk through interesting locations and saying goodbye to new meetings somewhere in Europe. \n\n\n\nAccomodation: \n\n\n\nThere will be 2 hostels\, where you’ll live (one in Lviv and one in Kyiv).
