SUMMARY:Post Industrial Weekend
DESCRIPTION:We are inviting you to come to the Ruhr Area for the first ever Post Industrial Weekend! \n\n\n\nThe Ruhr Area was historically dominated by mines and factories\, but today many of those sites have closed or been transformed into museums\, parks\, offices\, universities\, and cultural venues. Industry hasn’t disappeared completely — it’s simply no longer the main driver of the region’s identity or economy. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we want to explore how this history has shaped the region’s structures today\, what has grown from it\, and what lies ahead. It may not be perfect\, but it’s real. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRUHR AREA\n\n\n\nThe Ruhr Area was once the industrial powerhouse of Germany\, shaped by coal mining\, steel production\, and heavy industry. Today\, in its post-industrial era\, it has transformed into a region known for culture\, technology\, green spaces\, and creative industries — blending its industrial heritage with modern innovation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAccomodation \n\n\n\nWe’ll be staying at Burg Husen in Dortmund\, right next to the Ruhr River — the river that gave the Ruhr Area its name. The castle is a charming venue that feels more pre- than post-industrial\, yet it’s located in the heart of the Ruhr Valley\, a region that has long been — and remains — a central hub of industrial activity. \n\n\n\nIt offers plenty of space\, a large kitchen\, and a beautiful vaulted cellar (“Gewölbekeller”) for our activities. There are 24 beds available (4 dorm rooms with 6 beds each)\, as well as space on the campsite. When you register\, please let us know whether you would be happy to camp or if you would prefer to attend only if a bed is available. This will help us plan accommodation as smoothly as possible. 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHow to get to Burg Husen\n\n\n\nPublic transport:Burg Husen is located in Dortmund-Syburg and can be reached by train and bus. Take a regional train or S-Bahn to Dortmund\, then continue by local bus toward Syburg. The nearest stop is Dortmund Syburg\, from which it’s about 15-20 minutes on foot to the castle. \n\n\n\nCar:If you’re arriving by car\, enter Burg Husen\, Syburger Dorfstraße 135\, 44265 Dortmund into your navigation system. Parking is available on site. \n\n\n\nCycling:Burg Husen is easily accessible by bike via local cycling routes along the Ruhr River. There is bike parking available at the venue\, making it a scenic and eco-friendly way to reach the castle. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nWe want to create the best possible program to show you what the Ruhr Area has to offer. The event focuses on the challenges and potentials of post-industrial regions — particularly structural change\, urban development\, and urban ecology. These topics will be explored through fun workshops and excursions. \n\n\n\nThis preliminary program gives you a glimpse of what’s coming! It’s still under development and will be updated now and then 🙂 \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*Program subject to change. \n\n\n\nExcursions \n\n\n\nShort Hiking Excursion: On Friday Afternoon we plan to do a hike to explore the surroundings of our accommodation which is located close to the Ruhr River. We will hike a 5 km loop up the small hills and alongside the Ruhr. \n\n\n\nBig Excursion Day: On Saturday we will start right after breakfast and take a Bus to Dortmund Hörde and Hombruch. We plan to visit various examples of what a Post Industrial City can look like. We plan to visit the Phoenix Lake\, the Emscher River\, the Phoenix West Area and some more areas. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLeisure Program\n\n\n\nWelcoming Evening: After dinner on Thursday evening we will officially start the event with a welcoming evening! \n\n\n\nTaxiteller Party: Friday night is Taxiteller night! We will get the chance to try the popular Ruhr Area dish which is a hearty fast-food dish from the Ruhr area\, typically made with fries topped with mayo\, currywurst\, gyros meat\, tzatziki\, and often onions. \n\n\n\nCoal Mining Party: We wrap up the event in the spirit of “Schicht im Schacht”: just as the miners once ended their shifts\, we celebrate the end of the workday and bring the post-industrial weekend to a close. Entry fee: a piece of coal (creative solutions are welcome) \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nRegistrations were originally open until march 20th. But we still have a few free spots!! \n\n\n\nSecond Round of registrations until April 26th!\n\n\n\nWe just opened a second round of registrations. You can still register until April 26th for the few remaining spots! \n\n\n\nThe price includes accommodation\, meals\, and the official program. Please note that we do not provide camping equipment\, if you plan to camp\, bring your own gear or contact us to see if arrangements can be made. \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here!

SUMMARY:Kiel Week Event Vol. 5
DESCRIPTION:After four amazing Kiel Week Events (2014\, 2015\, 2016\, 2019) and a seven-year break\, it’s finally time to return. We’re thrilled to invite you back to Kiel for a very special weekend! \n\n\n\nKiel Week is much more than a sailing regatta. Since the late 19th century\, it has grown into one of the world’s largest sailing events and the biggest summer festival in Northern Europe. Every year\, several million visitors fill the city with international flair\, music\, maritime culture\, and a unique festival atmosphere right by the sea. \n\n\n\nWe would like to invite you to spend a weekend staying in our homes\, exploring Kiel together\, and experiencing the diverse programme of Kiel Week! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nWe will spend a lot of time at Kiel Week\, which will be at the heart of our program. Key highlights include the famous Tall Ships Parade and the Night Glow\, where illuminated hot air balloons light up the night sky. At the same time\, we want to keep things flexible and go with the flow: Perhaps spontaneously attending a concert\, visiting a ship\, or joining other activities we come across. There will also be free time for you to explore Kiel Week on your own. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA few impressions of the last Kiel Weeks (missing pictures of the partys): \n\n\n© LH Kiel / Bodo Quante© FH Kiel / Philipp Kellner© LH Kiel / Barbara Westendorf© FH Kiel / Anita Naninga© FH Kiel / Alexandra Brecht© FH Kiel / Philipp Kellner\n\n\nImportant: We will see the Tall Ships Parade (also visible in the pictures). However\, many official races take place further out at sea\, so we cannot see them. It will also be very\, very crowded. If you don’t feel comfortable in large crowds\, we recommend that you do not attend the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccomodation & Getting there\n\n\n\nFinding accommodation during Kiel Week is notoriously difficult\, but that won’t be an issue for us. You’ll be staying at our homes\, just like during the exchanges. It would be best if you plan to arrive in Kiel between 2 pm and 7 pm. \n\n\n\nKiel is located about 90 km north of Hamburg. Hamburg is easily accessible from across Europe by train or plane. From there\, Kiel can be reached conveniently by train. In addition\, Kiel is connected by ferry to Oslo (Norway)\, Gothenburg (Sweden)\, and Klaipėda (Lithuania). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nThe participation fee is 60 € and covers all activities\, public transport\, food\, and non-alcoholic drinks. If there is any budget remaining at the end of the event\, we will handle it transparently and decide together whether it should be refunded or reinvested into the programme. \n\n\n\nImportant: We can currently only host 9 people and have already received around 20 registrations. However\, if you happen to be free at short notice (in case someone drops out at the last minute) you can still register here and be added to the waiting list. Just click here: Register on Waiting List.

SUMMARY:Annual Congress 2026: Wild Isles
DESCRIPTION:AC 2026 is organized by: EGEA Berlin\, EGEA Bochum\, EGEA Brussels\, EGEA Guildford\, EGEA Hannover\, EGEA Mainz\, EGEA Turku. \n\n\n\n\n\nOur congress will be about exploring the dynamic interplay across the landscapes of\, societies within and legacies created on the Isles of Britain. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKey facts\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Sayers Croft Field Centre\, Ewhurst\, United Kingdom\n\n\n\nWhen: 24th–29th August 2026\n\n\n\nCost: estimated 216 € (Group A)\n\n\n\nScientific theme: Landscapes\, Lives and Legacies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\nThe British Isles today are the result of a rich tapestry of events spanning from the dawn of continents to modern day geopolitics. These isles have sunbathed in Mediterranean seas during Pangea’s reign\, to later be moved and carved into the mosaic of morphologies you see today by fluvial and glacial processes. The fertile soils\, temperate conditions and abundant resources made the British Isles an attractive place to settle\, and generations of settlers and invaders have made their marks too. \n\n\n\nFrom tribal druidic Celts\, expansionist Romans\, opportunistic Pagan Anglo-Saxons and then the conquering Christian Normans\, all these cultures and societies mixed together with the unique landscapes to create some of the most famous myths and legends the UK has to offer; from Arthurian legend with Camelot and Merlin\, to Robin Hood and his band of Merry men\, to everyone’s favourite Loch Ness Monster\, Nessie. \n\n\n\nSo become part of the history\, explore these Wild Isles like those who have come before\, and let AC 2026 become part of this rich tapestry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nSayers Croft Outdoor Learning Centre is located at the foot of the Surrey Hills National Landscape. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccommodation\n\n\n\n\nOur accommodation is a beautifully preserved piece of World War 2 evacuee history…\n\n\n\n…with it now being used as a modern day children’s residential camp.\n\n\n\nWith six spacious dormitories with common rooms\, 3 spacious fields with campfires…\n\n\n\n…GA/dance hall combo\, a refreshing swimming pool…\n\n\n\n…and with wonderful outdoor areas to relax and unwind.\n\n\n\nIt is an ideal location for Annual Congress 2026!\n\n\n\nNot to mention the various adventurous activities which can be facilitated right on site such as archery\, axe throwing\, high ropes\, climbing and catapult building!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop ideas\n\n\n\nThe scientific focus of the congress is built around three interconnected thematic pillars: Landscapes\, Lives and Legacies. \n\n\n\nThrough workshops and excursions\, the programme explores how physical landscapes have been shaped by geological and geomorphological processes\, and how human activity continues to transform them through land use\, conservation\, infrastructure and resource management.
