SUMMARY:CZECHOSLOVAK WEEKEND 6TH EDITION
DESCRIPTION:We would like to invite all of you to the 6th Czechoslovak weekend! \n\n\n\n\nMost of the activities will take place in Protected Landscape Area České středohoří\, in the north of Bohemia. The location of the accommodation is in Mentaurov village\, about 5 km far from Litoměřice on the southern border of the protected area. You can look forward to beautiful nature\, which is typical for its volcanic mountains (youngest in Czechia) and the deep valley of Elbe River. There will be also part for lovers of national culture and history during a guided tour in Terezín and Litoměřice. \n\n\n\n\nThis traditional meeting is focused especially on Czech and Slovak entities (main languages are Czech and Slovak)\, but we are also opened to everyone else. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAMME – EXCURSIONS – TRAVEL INFO – WHAT TO BRING \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday 4th \n15.00–18.00 arrival \n18.00 ice-breaking games \n20.00 Cultural Fair \n \nFriday 5th \n9.00 city tour in Litoměřice \n14.00 guided tour in Terezín \n18.00 return from the trip \n19.00 evening programme \n \nSaturday 6th \n9.00 hiking in České středohoří (Varhošť and surroundings) \n18.00 return from the trip \n19.00 evening programme \n \nSunday 7th \n9.00–10.00 goodbye \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nLitoměřice\n\n\n\nTerezín\n\n\n\nVarhošť\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAMME – EXCURSIONS – TRAVEL INFO – WHAT TO BRING \n\n\n\nFirst day (Friday): We’ll start more cultural and historical way in Litoměřice and Terezín. During the city tour\, we’ll visit the historical center of Litoměřice (for example\, the baroque cathedral and tower of St. Štěpán). In the afternoon our steps will lead us to Terezín where we will take a guided tour through a less known\, but very interesting part of Terezín – The Big Fortress. During this tour\, we will be able to hear the history of the town\, get basic knowledge about the defensive system of this ingenious fortress\, and even check it by ourselves! \n\n\n\nSecond day (Saturday): We’ll spend this day on a hike to Hradiště hill\, which is protected as a natural monument due to the biodiversity of the steppe species. This type of vegetation is also typical for most of the hills in České středohoří. The other amazing views will be waiting for us on Varhošť\, neovolcanic hill with a lookout tower on the top. \n\n\n\nIt is possible that we’ll change the order of excursions according to the weather and stuff. \n\n\n\nPROGRAMME – EXCURSIONS – TRAVEL INFO – WHAT TO BRING \n\n\n\n\n\nBy car: It’s super easy for you. Just follow the address of the accommodation below – from Prague is the fastest way to go on the D8 motorway to Lovosice and then across Litoměřice to Mentaurov parking. \n\n\n\nBy public transport: I think most of you’ll travel from Prague or Prague will be your transfer station. You have to get somehow to station Litoměřice\,\,aut.nádr.  So here are my ideas on how to do that the easiest as you can. It’s up to you if you prefer train or bus transport\, but in my opinion\, the bus is faster and less risky. And now you’re in Litoměřice! You can go to the accommodation by walk but I think you’ll enjoy enough walking during the next days so it’ll be better to use the bus to Litoměřice\,\,rozc.Mentaurov. And station Litoměřice\,\,rozc.Mentaurov is only about 15 min of walk from the accommodation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAddress of accommodation: \nMentaurov \nMlýnská 225/2 \n412 01 Litoměřice – Pokratice \n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll be waiting for you on this address from 15.00 (as it is said in the programme). \n\n\n\nPROGRAMME – EXCURSIONS – TRAVEL INFO – WHAT TO BRING \n\n\n\n\n\nstudent identity card (ISIC\, …)hiking shoes and clothes (warm\, waterproof\, …)a small bag for tripsyour typical regional food and drinks for Cultural Fairgood mood and sunshine

We’ll start with a short introduction to Guerilla Gardening: What is it? How does it work? How can it contribute to more climate-resilient\, biodiverse and liveable cities? What are the do’s and dont’s? How can guerilla gardening support city trees in need? \n\n\n\nIn the second half of the evening we want to open up the floor and share knowledge and experience with each other. Do you have any experience or skills already that can be helpful for (guerilla) gardening? Sign up for our open space to share your knowledge with follow-EGEAns! If you are new to (guerilla) gardening\, learn from your experienced fellow EGEAns how to make seed bombs and plant cuttings\, or whatever else they can share with you! \n\n\n\n\nREGISTER FOR AC2021 EVENT(S)\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is part of THE ONLINE AC 2021\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers

These include partners of EGEA and the AC specifically\, as well as EGEA alumni who can tell us about their geographical career choices! \n\n\n\nAGENDA: At 16:00 the presenting organisations and some introduce themselves briefly. From 16:20 two presentations of 20 minutes will follow from our partners Kadaster and KNAG. From 16:40 we’ll have speeddate sessions with partners and alumni\, meet them all and get to know their personal stories. From 17:00 to 17:30 you can walk around freely and start or join a conversation with the attending partners and each other over a social virtual drink; something we call a “borrel” in The Netherlands. \n\n\n\nAttending partners: \n\n\n\nKNAG: Royal Dutch Geography Society. Eelko Postma\, president of KNAG\, and Leo Paul\, KNAG’s representative for EUGEO\, are eager to meet you. EUGEO is the European Asscoiation of Geographical Societies\, of which KNAG is part. Their fund \, FEGOO\, sponsored the AC. They will present what it means to work in geography education. Radboud University\, department of Geography\, Planning and Environment. About doing research and doing masters in Nijmegen.Kadaster: The Netherlands’ Cadastre\, Land Registry and Mapping Agency. Will present about land development\, in The Netherlands and Internationally.5 EGEA Alumni from all sides of Geography\, and beyond. What is it like to start a PhD and continue in academia\, what is it like to go all in on GIS with TomTom or ESRI\, what if you do something totally different from your geographical background? \n\n\n\n\nLink to the Career Talks area\n\n\n\n\n\nGREEN EVENT: Guerilla Gardening and How to Help City Trees in Need21 sept. 19:00 – 21:00 CET\nHave you ever heard of Guerilla Gardening? “Gardening in the public space with or without permission” is possible in many forms: from secretly dropping some seeds or burying some bulbs\, to creating a tiny garden around the street tree in front of your door\, to setting up a community garden together with your neighbors – or any other opportunity you see for making your neighborhood nicer\, greener\, more biodiverse! \n\n\n\n\nVISIT GREEN EVENT PAGE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nScience at the AC2021\n\n\n\nClick on the titles below for information about the scientific program. More information will be added in the near future. A digital certificate will be given to participants of GeoLabs and workshops! \n\n\n\n\nLecture 1: Dutch fight against the water | 13 sept. 12:00 – 14:00 CET\n\n\n\n\nThe Dutch are well known for their fight against the water\, but what happens when we need to give up some of our land to properly protect the people against the rising sea levels? This is something professor Middelkoop and professor Vu from the university of Utrecht enthusiastically dive into. \n\n\n\nIt is a multidisciplinary challenge that will require all of us to work together and put our knowledge to the test. In this interactive lecture we will discuss the problems and opportunities that arise when trying to free up space for the sea in such a densely populated country as the Netherlands. \n\n\n\nIt is up to you to figure out how to tackle this situation.  \n\n\n\nThis lecture will be held monday the 13th of september from 12:00 till 14:00 CET by professor Hans Middelkoop and his partners. Tibor from EGEA Leuven is ready to challenge you! \n\n\n\n\nLecture 2: Global and local SDG’s | 14 sept. 20:00 – 22:00 CET\n\n\n\n\nOf course we are all familiar with the sustainable development goals. But how do we turn these abstract concepts into practice? \n\n\n\nProject manager at SDG Nederland Mena Leila Kilani will cover the small-scale challenges of integrating the SDG’s in daily practice in both personal and organizational life. In the other half of this lecture\, professor Kraak will be talking about his expertise on how to visualize the SDG’s on a global scale. Together\, they will show  how SDG’s can be turned from abstract concepts to visible change. \n\n\n\nThe first half of this lecture is presented by professor Menno-Jan Kraak from the university of Twente\, followed by project manager Mena Leila Kilan from SDG Nederland. This lecture will take place on the 14th of september from 20:00 till 22:00 CET.  \n\n\n\n\nJoin Global and Local SDGs lecture here!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop 1: World of GIS | 18 sept. 10:00 – 16:00 CET (incl. break)\n\n\n\n\nOf course mapping the future is a challenging task\, which increasingly asks for skilled experts. GIS can help solve problems\, as it can identify where and how such issues could be tackled. In this workshop\, we’ll explore different features of GIS by diving into more advanced methods. It will use a case close to our traveler’s hearts: AirBnB. \n\n\n\nThis workshop is especially interesting for everyone who wants to level-up their GIS skills. Please be aware that participating in this advanced GIS workshop requires GIS experience! \n\n\n\nThis workshop is a cooperation with professor Egbert van der Zee from the University of Utrecht. It is guided by our GIS specialists Max and Marcel from EGEA Jena and will take place on saturday the 18th of september from 10:00-16:00 CET (with a nice lunch break from 12:00 till 14:00). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop 2: Land use in the Achterhoek: The Game18 sept. 10:00 – 16:00 CET (incl. break)\n\n\n\n\nPeripheral areas often face different problems compared to centre areas. As youth leave the area and the population ages\, challenges arise for spatial planning and service provision. This workshop will look at such issues in the Achterhoek\, a peripheral area in the Netherlands where the congress originally would have taken place.  \n\n\n\nThe city of Groenlo had given us quite a challenge\, but spatial planning expert (and old EGEAn) Martinus from Kadaster has given us some handholds to tackle this. Together\, we will figure out how Groenlo can use spatial planning to solve their problems. We will do so not by diving into science but with a rather unique method: games! \n\n\n\nThis GeoLab uses a game designed by Kadaster. The case is designed with the help of local ambassadors from the Achterhoek. Our lovely EGEAn Borna from Zagreb is ready to moderate this workshop and give you all the help you need. This workshop will take place on Saturday the 18th from 10:00-16:00 CET (with a nice lunch break from 12:00-14:00 CET).  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeolab 1: Future Foods | 15\, 17\, 22\, 24 sept. 15:00 – 17:00 CET\n\n\n\n\nThe world’s population is growing: more mouths are to be fed\, while at the same time our food system has proven unsustainable. Many alternative systems have been suggested\, but each has its limitations. At the start of this GeoLab Professor Jansma will cover a few of these alternative future food systems. Afterwards\, it is your turn to explore the possibilities of one of these alternatives: food forests.  \n\n\n\nTogether with professional food forest designers Iwein and Andreas you will learn the challenges and possibilities food forests can offer. In the following sessions you will discover this hands-on\, by designing your own food forests. \n\n\n\nThis GeoLab features professor Jan Eelco Jansma from the University of Wageningen and food forest specialist Iwein Fuld. It is led by Katri and Milja from EGEA Oulu. It will take place over the course of four sessions\, on wednesday and friday the 15th\, 17th\, 22nd and 24th from 15:00-17:00 CET.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeoLab 2: School of Maps | 15\, 17\, 22\, 24 sept. 15:00 – 17:00 CET\n\n\n\n\nGIS is not just important in our work as geography scientists. It’s also increasingly used in high-schools. Together with professor Tim Favier and expert Tom Kuijpers we’ll explore how maps could be used to teach youth about a diverse range of topics and how GIS can contribute to this. \n\n\n\nThis GeoLab is for everyone with interest in education in general\, it is especially useful for the future teachers among us and for everyone that wants to level-up their basic arcGIS skills. It’s a creative challenge that can help future students understand difficult topics through our favourite medium: Maps! During the session you can pick any topic you like or have great expertise in to transform into a fun and educational lesson. \n\n\n\nThis interesting topic will be introduced to us by professor Tim Favier from the University of Utrecht and Tom Kuijpers from Esri Nederland. Our very own specialists\, Malte from EGEA Osnabrück and Marek from EGEA Praha\, will guide this GeoLab. The four sessions will be the same as the other GeoLab\, on wednesday and friday the 15th and 17th and the 22nd and 24th from 15:00-17:00 CET. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPartners of the Annual Congress\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Netherlands’ Cadastre\, Land Registry and Mapping Agency – in short Kadaster – collects and registers administrative and spatial data on property and the rights involved. This also goes for ships\, aircraft and telecom networks. Doing so\, Kadaster protects legal certainty. We are also responsible for national mapping and maintenance of the national reference coordinate system. Furthermore\, we are an advisory body for land-use issues and national spatial data infrastructures\, also operating internationally. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Royal Dutch Geographical Society (KNAG) is one of the AC’s major sponsors. Through their fund for educational and academic geographical events (FEGOO) they have helped realise the Annual congress. The fund arose from EUGEO’s first congress in 2006. KNAG is the leading geography network in The Netherlands since 1873 as well as the association for Geography education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRadboud University – Geography Planning and Environment. The department of Geography\, Planning and Environment in Nijmegen is a generous sponsor for the AC2021. Find more information\, including their spatial master programmes\, by clicking the logo! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs a long term partner of EGEA Europe and as important contributor to the AC2021\, Utrecht University cannot be left out here. Various employees have contributed to the programme and realisation of this Annual Congress. They offer a great number of master programmes in the whole area of geosciences. Find out more on their Master Open Day! \n\n\n\nThe Faculty of GeoSciences would like to invite you to the Master’s Online Open Day of the University of Utrecht on Wednesday 13 October 2021. \n\n\n\nThe online webinars give you the opportunity to learn about the Master’s programmes you are interested in. Well\, the only way to find out is to attend TTTTTT. So save the date: 27.- 30.08.2021. \n  \nOsnabrück has once again decided to organise our annual hiking event through the Teutoburger Forest. Due to Covid-19\, we could not find many available campsites – therefore\, we have decided to just stay at one campsite this year. Some of you might know it already\, since we spent the last Teuto Trails there as well. Our campsite also has a big lake in which you can take a swim after our hikes. The program will consist of daily hikes and additional fun things\, so you can simply leave your heavy backpacks at the campsite. \n \nWe will meet on Friday\, 27.08.21 in Lengerich\, which you can reach by train. From there\, we start our hike to the Teutoburger Waldsee. You will have to bring the usual hiking equipment (tent\, sleeping bag\, sleeping mat\,…)\, but we will also send you a packing list. You can have a look at the campsite on this website: https://www.teutoburger-waldsee.de/#home \n \nOn Sunday\, we will all return to Osnabrück and spend the night from Sunday to Monday in Osnabrück. This evening will consist of a fun pubcrawl in our beautiful city\, where you can stay at the hosts and have a lovely day before it is time to say goodbye! So we will be at the campsite for two nights and one night in Osnabrück! If you are interested in joining a fun weekend with 30 EGEAns from all over Europe\, register for our event! \n \nOnce registration closes\, you will receive more detailed information in the mail. The entire weekend will cost 40€ for you. \n \n\nEven though the restrictions in Germany are currently very loose\, we do not know what the situation will be like in August. It is important to note that we will obviously organise the event according to August’s Covid measures. The campsite requires everyone to present a negative covid test\, which was taken less than 24 hours ago (you are exempt if you are fully vaccinated or have had Covid-19 before).
