SUMMARY:Post Industrial Weekend
DESCRIPTION:We are inviting you to come to the Ruhr Area for the first ever Post Industrial Weekend!  \n\n\n\nThe Ruhr Area was historically dominated by mines and factories\, but today many of those sites have closed or been transformed into museums\, parks\, offices\, universities\, and cultural venues. Industry hasn’t disappeared completely — it’s simply no longer the main driver of the region’s identity or economy. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we want to explore how this history has shaped the region’s structures today\, what has grown from it\, and what lies ahead. It may not be perfect\, but it’s real. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nRUHR AREA\n\n\n\nThe Ruhr Area was once the industrial powerhouse of Germany\, shaped by coal mining\, steel production\, and heavy industry. Today\, in its post-industrial era\, it has transformed into a region known for culture\, technology\, green spaces\, and creative industries — blending its industrial heritage with modern innovation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAccomodation \n\n\n\nWe’ll be staying at Burg Husen in Dortmund\, right next to the Ruhr River — the river that gave the Ruhr Area its name. The castle is a charming venue that feels more pre- than post-industrial\, yet it’s located in the heart of the Ruhr Valley\, a region that has long been — and remains — a central hub of industrial activity. \n\n\n\nIt offers plenty of space\, a large kitchen\, and a beautiful vaulted cellar (“Gewölbekeller”) for our activities. There are 24 beds available (4 dorm rooms with 6 beds each)\, as well as space on the campsite. When you register\, please let us know whether you would be happy to camp or if you would prefer to attend only if a bed is available. This will help us plan accommodation as smoothly as possible. 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHow to get to Burg Husen\n\n\n\nPublic transport:Burg Husen is located in Dortmund-Syburg and can be reached by train and bus. Take a regional train or S-Bahn to Dortmund\, then continue by local bus toward Syburg. The nearest stop is Dortmund Syburg\, from which it’s about 15-20 minutes on foot to the castle.   \n\n\n\nCar:If you’re arriving by car\, enter Burg Husen\, Syburger Dorfstraße 135\, 44265 Dortmund into your navigation system. Parking is available on site. \n\n\n\nCycling:Burg Husen is easily accessible by bike via local cycling routes along the Ruhr River. There is bike parking available at the venue\, making it a scenic and eco-friendly way to reach the castle. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProgram\n\n\n\nWe want to create the best possible program to show you what the Ruhr Area has to offer while also providing learning opportunities. The event focuses on the future challenges of post-industrial regions — particularly structural change\, urban development\, and urban ecology. \n\n\n\nThese topics will be explored through expert lectures\, workshops\, and excursions. We aim to complement some of the contents by innovative formats such as virtual reality and gamification. Alongside the professional content\, international exchange and networking are at the heart of the program. EGEA! \n\n\n\nThis preliminary program gives you a glimpse of what’s coming! DESCRIPTION:Dear EGEAns\, \n\n\n\nfrom the 4th to the 7th of June\, the Summer Organisation and Strategy Meeting (SOSM) will take place in Hannover. During the Event we will have several sessions on relevant topics in EGEA. If you have a topic in mind that should be discussed you are welcome to suggest a topic. The event will include interesting discussions about the future of EGEA as well as fun and relaxed evening activities such as BBQ in one of our beautiful parks next to the geography department building. \n\n\n\nWhat is the OSM?It is a biannual meeting for all official bodies in EGEA. All Team representatives\, Regional Teams\, Supporting Roles\, Project representatives\, Congress Organisers\, Board and Advisory Board meet there to discuss the future of EGEA in order to come up with a common strategy and ways of accomplishing it. DESCRIPTION:After four amazing Kiel Week Events (2014\, 2015\, 2016\, 2019) and a seven-year break\, it’s finally time to return. We’re thrilled to invite you back to Kiel for a very special weekend! \n\n\n\nKiel Week is much more than a sailing regatta. Since the late 19th century\, it has grown into one of the world’s largest sailing events and the biggest summer festival in Northern Europe. Every year\, several million visitors fill the city with international flair\, music\, maritime culture\, and a unique festival atmosphere right by the sea. \n\n\n\nWe would like to invite you to spend a weekend staying in our homes\, exploring Kiel together\, and experiencing the diverse programme of Kiel Week! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgramme\n\n\n\nWe will spend a lot of time at Kiel Week\, which will be at the heart of our program. Key highlights include the famous Tall Ships Parade and the Night Glow\, where illuminated hot air balloons light up the night sky. At the same time\, we want to keep things flexible and go with the flow: Perhaps spontaneously attending a concert\, visiting a ship\, or joining other activities we come across. However\, many official races take place further out at sea\, so we cannot see them. It will also be very\, very crowded. If you don’t feel comfortable in large crowds\, we recommend that you do not attend the event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccomodation & Getting there\n\n\n\nFinding accommodation during Kiel Week is notoriously difficult\, but that won’t be an issue for us. You’ll be staying at our homes\, just like during the exchanges. It would be best if you plan to arrive in Kiel between 2 pm and 7 pm.  \n\n\n\nKiel is located about 90 km north of Hamburg. Hamburg is easily accessible from across Europe by train or plane. From there\, Kiel can be reached conveniently by train. In addition\, Kiel is connected by ferry to Oslo (Norway)\, Gothenburg (Sweden)\, and Klaipėda (Lithuania). \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nThe participation fee is 60 € and covers all activities\, public transport\, food\, and non-alcoholic drinks. If there is any budget remaining at the end of the event\, we will handle it transparently and decide together whether it should be refunded or reinvested into the programme. \n\n\n\nPlease note that capacity is limited: we can host a maximum of 10 participants. These isles have sunbathed in Mediterranean seas during Pangea’s reign\, to later be moved and carved into the mosaic of morphologies you see today by fluvial and glacial processes. As such\, we are promoting our Green initiative to help create awareness to the variety of options available and we want to encourage EGEAns to travel in groups to make memorable travel experiences. \n\n\n\nDuring the congress we also will be including a sustainability bingo for our participants to play throughout the week. This involves fun tasks revealed each day and the opportunity to win prizes while making a positive sustainable impact. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow to get here?\n\n\n\nFerry: Being surrounded by water has its perks\, and for participants coming by boat that means watching the beautiful White Cliffs of Dover home into view!  \n\n\n\nEurostar/Train: Ever wanted to ride a train under the sea? Well now you can! The Eurostar from Amsterdam/Brussels/Paris will bring you straight to central London! Book 2-3 months in advance for best prices. \n\n\n\nBus: If you can get to Paris or Brussels Flixbus does very cheap (albeit very long) journeys to central London! \n\n\n\nAeroplane: For those in a time crunch\, flying to Gatwick or Heathrow makes a good option with many flights to all major European airports and easy connections to Guildford\, the nearest city.
