SUMMARY:Eastern Regional Congress 2024
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the Czech EGEA entities\, we decided to organize a congress dedicated to the topic of Mobility shifts. We wish to take you on an adventure to discover how has mobility changed in the past. One of the most recent changes in paradigms of human mobility was caused by the covid-19 pandemic. What other dramatic changes have happened in the last few years? One of the workshop sessions will be dedicated to this topic\, others will dive into the areas of sustainable tourism\, history of internationalism\, remote sensing\, spas and hydrology\, noise pollution and animal habitat displacement. Do not miss the chance to take part in the only urban congress of 2024 and register with your EGEA account. \n\n\n\nWorkshops\n\n\n\nTheme of the congress is Mobility shifts. Our workshops will focus on changes covid-19 pandemic brought to the human society\, but also on local mineral springs and the changes they are encountering. The scientific topic can be broadly understood as focus on breaking points and changes of paradigms. This will connect human- and physical- geography oriented workshops. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbove you can see the venue for scientific and EGEA programme of ERC 2024\, the Frédéric Chopin House in Mariánské Lázně \n\n\n\nSuit up for this special occasion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us to engage in the very last ERC. We will start off the congress with a gala opening\, so make sure to bring something sophisticated. The more of a distinguished lady or gentleman you will be\, the more you will fit in the spa environment. After all\, “šaty dělají člověka.” \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nWe are inviting you to Czechia. Our congress will take place in a town environment. Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) consists of 13\,000 inhabitants as well as thousands of visitors at any point in time. We will be using multiple facilities (buildings) for the duration of the congress. During excursions you will be able to visit pristine natural reserve Kladská\, vibrant Karlovy Vary and hike towards breathtaking views in this hilly part of the country. \n\n\n\n\n\nTransportation\n\n\n\nReach the location of congress by train. Place of accommodation is few hundred meters from the main station Mariánské Lázně. Trips from Nürnberg and Prague take a little over 2 hours. You will also be able to find connections through Cheb (Eger) and through Plzeň (Pilsen). Flixbus operates a convenient Frankfurt–Cheb line. For holders of ISIC card travelling inside of Czechia: you can get a ticket from Brno for €12.3\, from Praha for €5.7 or from Ostrava for €16 \n\n\n\nWho is behind this project?\n\n\n\nWe are a team of 11 proud EGEAns from all parts of Czechia. The people owning this project are Adéla Husáková\, Denisa Hadrová\, Jan Brodský\, Kateřina Podzimková\, Kryštof Richter\, Jakub Joksch\, Ľuboš Rybnikár\, Matyáš Ludvík\, Miroslava Pazourková\, Monika Zuzaňáková and Ondřej Míka. We are a non-profit event. If you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to contact us at participants.erc2024@egea.eu \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistrations for the Eastern Regional Congress are closed as of December 2023. However\, attendees from our partner’s organizations are still more than welcome to register by sending us email to erc2024@egea.eu. By the end of the workshops\, we will aim to create a report discussing the results of our measurement taken on the excursion and assessing the further consequences of the development of water tourism in the Masurian region. \n\n\n\nExcursion\n\n\n\nWe will divide into three groups and get onto the yachts. While sailing across the lake Mikołajskie\, one of the most popular Masurian lakes\, we will measure the cleanliness of the lake using a professional device provided by The Jagiellonian University. Having the continuous measurements taken over some period\, we will be able to put the results onto the map\, which will result in the breathtaking and astonishing spatial interpretation of the quality of the water in the lake. \n\n\n\nWorkshop leaders\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeona Matotek\n\n\n\nUniversity of Zagreb\, EGEA Zagreb \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeon Puljević\n\n\n\nUniversity of Zagreb\, EGEA Zagreb \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHistorical places and their meaning in region\nOlecko; Poland – May 20\, 2018: Monument in honor of soldiers who died during World War I\, unveiled on September 11\, 1927\n\n\n\nNo beaches? We don’t have them here either. But we have multiple architectural buildings filled with mixed cultural influence which created an extraordinary climate for the region. We will dive into local history and reasons why masurians are neither pole nor german. \n\n\n\nThe subject of the workshop concerns the heritage of Masuria. We will discuss historical events\, masurian identity and influence of religion in this region. As a part of our workshop we are going to trace back the change of areas of influence of different countries by using pre prepared maps. \n\n\n\nWorkshop leaders\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKorana Komar\n\n\n\nFaculty of Science in Zagreb\, Department of Geography\, EGEA Zagreb \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStella Štefanac\n\n\n\nUniversity of Science Zagreb\, Department of Geography\, EGEA Zagreb \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCittaslow – slow life not only in the countryside\nCatholic baroque church in Swieta Lipka (Heilige Linde)\, Masuria\, Poland\n\n\n\nNo Are you tired of rushed and overcrowded touristic places? Come to our workshop and discover the slow way of traveling along with traditions and local products. We will present to you the essence of Cittaslow by showing our Warmian-Masurian villages and towns. You will have a chance to explore unusual architecture\, try local food and feel the spirit of the Polish countryside. \n\n\n\nThe subject of the workshop concerns the Cittaslow association\, which brings together small cities around the world. As part of the workshop\, you will learn the main features of cities belonging to the network and what benefits and obligations result from belonging to Cittaslow. During fieldwork\, you will assess how Polish cities pursue common goals and ideas of the organization. If you are interested\, check their website. https://www.cittaslow.org/.  \n\n\n\nWorkshop leaders\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAlicja Lis\n\n\n\nUniwersytet Jagielloński\, EGEA Kraków \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPatrycja Maćkowiak\n\n\n\nUniwersytet Jagielloński\, EGEA Kraków \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLimnology in practice\n\n\n\n„Limnology in practice” is a workshop during which you will discover and learn about Polish lakes in Masuria. In the beginning we are going to present theoretical knowledge about limnology\, then it is time for measurement and taking samples. At the end we will draw conclusions from our work. We also want to touch upon the problem of building a motorway through Masuria and how it can affect the environment of lakes. \n\n\n\nExcursion\n\n\n\nThe science excursion will contain the measurement of the local lake on boats or canoes. After that we are going to visit a nearby educational path which shows the natural environment of Masurian water birds. The last part of the excursion will take place in Mrągowo\, where the motorway through Masuria will be built. The samples taken there will be studied later to determine pollution of these waters. \n\n\n\nWorkshop leader\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLuana Schena\n\n\n\nUniversity of Zurich\, EGEA Zurich \n\n\n\nFacebook\n\nInstagram\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJourney to the roots of herbs and sustainable farming\nCloseup of freshly harvested thyme holding by hands\n\n\n\nThe workshop “Journey to the roots of herbs and sustainable farming” will take you literally to the roots of herbs – we will kick off the workshop with a walk in the Congress’ surroundings to gather edible roots and plants – dandelions\, nettles\, dead nettles\, chavil\, wild onions and whatever we are lucky to find. This will be accompanied by wild salad\, nettle soup and dandelion root coffee. \n\n\n\nExcursion\n\n\n\nDuring the excursion we will visit a local Garden specialized in growing herbs and breeding butterflies\, where we will learn about different herbs\, make herb tea mixtures and natural soap. \n\n\n\nWorkshop leader\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichalina Pietras\n\n\n\nUniversity of Copenhagen \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeronika Ziółkiewicz\n\n\n\nJagiellonian University\, EGEA Kraków \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTransport Tips&Tricks\n\n\n\n\nAddress of our accommodation is:\nOśrodek Wczasowy Ostrów PieckowskiPiecki 7\, 11-710 PieckiPoland \n\n\n\nCoordinates:53.776160081439635 N21.34568483082378 E \n\n\n\nOpening Ceremony\n\n\n\nWarmińsko – Mazurski University in Olsztyn2 Michała Oczapowskiego St. 10-719\, Poland(the exact room where registration is going to take place will be published soon).  \n\n\n\nTo get to the location of the opening ceremony from the train station or city center you can choose public transport: bus 103\, 109 or tram.
