Travel Information

How to come to Mainz?

Mainz is super reachable in central Germany with really good transportation options:

on foot and by bike:

Probably the most sustainable way to come.

We have nice foot paths and we are part of the European cycling ways (check for EuroVelo 15 or D-8).

by train:

If you come by train, your final destination would be Mainz Hauptbahnhof. Mainz is easily reachable by train from Frankfurt and Cologne.

(Köln, don’t miss the epic ride through the midrhine valley!), two of the major train knots in Germany.

Booking is easy via Deutsche Bahn (check for our EGEA Partnership via this link and for Supersparpreis, the cheapest ticket price). If you have problems with the booking don’t hesitate to contact us.

From Mainz Hauptbahnhof we will pick you up and bring you to university.

by Bus:

We have various connections by bus companies as well, like Flixbus (check for our EGEA Partnership, book via this link by clicking on Flixbus logo).

Final destination would be Mainz Hauptbahnhof, where we would pick you up.

by car:

The address of the university is

Johannes Gutenberg – Universität Mainz

Geographisches Institut

Johann-Joachim-Becher Weg 21

55099 Mainz Germany

Parking spots are in front of the building.

Sharing is caring, please team up with other participants if possible!

You can use blablacar and other sharing platforms as well ;)

by plane:

Mainz is also easy reachable by plane due to the fact that we have two airports close by.

Option 1: Frankfurt International (FRA)

Close to Mainz and after you land, you take a regional train (S8, about 25min) to Mainz Hauptbahnhof (direction Wiesbaden Hbf) and we will pick you up.

The train goes every 30 min and between are even faster express trains which you can also take with your normal train ticket.

Option 2: Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN)

Has nothing to do with Frankfurt (150km away) but is our low-price airline airport. After you land you need to catch a bus by the company flibco.

Tickets are avaible at the bus driver or info box, or before online (flibco.com), so you can save some kudos.

Please check online when the buses are driving if you choose this option!

The bus ride will take around 1h and will drop you off at Mainz Hauptbahnhof where we will pick you up.

by Boat:

If you want you can reach us by boat, we are located at the Rhine river, the largest european river.

If you come with your own boat, try to find the Winterhafen and we awaits you there.

If you come with a travel company tell us the number of the pier and we will pick you up!

by anthing else:

you will find a way ;)
